Can't get train to work

So I'm at a point my playthrough where I need trains to transport some stuff. I set up a track from point A to point B, and put stations on each one, and set up for it to from station A to Station B and how long to stay for. But once I tell the train to go, it just sits there and flashes in red saying "no path". I have no idea why this is happening, or how to fix it. All my track is connected, and I told it the route I want, but it just says no path...

Also, I have it set up so there is no loop, but just has 2 locomotives at front and back, facing opposite directions.

Does anyone have any idea why this stupid thing is not working? :(

The train stops are on the right of the track, seen from the locomotive approaching the station?

It would help if you'd post screenshots of each station - or the save.

Seems like you don't know the basics, this could help you :)

http://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/commen ... _tutorial/

You can also find a lot of information on the wiki ;)
https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... ay_network

The train stations go always on the right. And the locomotives can't do reverse on their own, so you have to make a loop or put a locomotive on each end.
If it says No Path, then, there is a problem with the path. The locomotive can't get there. If you can ride it there, then the problem is with the train or the stations.

Hope this helps! :)

as MtNak said, try guiding your train manually (press ENTER to board it and remember to disable the automatic guide system) and move between stations to check the path is completed (no missing pieces in turns, for example).
Also remember that a turn is made of 1 curved rail + 1 piece of (diagonal) straight rail + 1 curved rail.
And, as already said, you need to put stops on the right side of the track.

How do I turn off the automatic guide system? But yeah I'll post some screenshots, maybe that will help. Hmmm it is possible that I have one of the stations on the wrong side lol I will double check that, and get back to you.

Thanks for all the info though guys.

I have a feeling it's the station not being on the correct side. You said you have a double-headed train, so I bet you put the stations on the same side (i.e. if east/west track: both stations on top of track). So when you head west, it's fine, but going east, the train can't find the station because it's on the train's left side.

Code: Select all

S                                         S
===========================================
S is for station and = is the track.

It should be:

Code: Select all

S
===========================================
                                          S
S is for station and = is the track.

I think he means the Train Schedule, the window you see when you click on the train.

Welp you were right Turtle, I was being extremely dumb and had put one of the stations on the wrong side. -_- Thanks you for the very detailed post though, had I not figured it out already myself, that definitely would of helped me.

Sorry about wasting ya'lls time with this post, it should of been pretty obvious what I had done wrong. haha But it was my first time making a train, so I was really bad at troubleshooting.

Thank you all for the responses, really were helpful and made me realize what I might had done wrong. ;)

No problem. Let me know if you have more trouble... I used to play Transport Tycoon Deluxe (and later OpenTTD) a lot so I'm a bit familiar with layouts and signaling.

Sorry about hijacking this thread but I have a related question.

I had a double ended train running just fine between stations A and B. I added a third station C with stops like this:

A
===================================================
B C

And simply added C as a destination. Now I get the dreaded no path found.

Do I need to make a full loop now? Can I get away w/ adding a D on the opposite side of the track from B?

Basically, A is oil unloading, B and C are oil loading.

What is the easiest solution?

Thanks
HH

So you have:

Code: Select all

A
=====================================================================
                                B                                   C
This one's hard to tell without really looking at it. Try putting the train on manual and just drive it to each station yourself to see if the tracks are connected properly. If that doesn't help you find the problem, post a screenshot of each station or better yet, post the save game.

I loaded up the game to manually run the train back to the other end, and it started working as I expected.

I *think* I had driven the train past the last stop because I had a couple of extra straight pieces on the end. Removing them made everything work fine.

I might just finally "win'.

I tried uploading a save file a couple of times, but the cgi script kept bombing out.

Thanks for your help.

You can upload only pics. For savegames, search you a nice cloud server, upload it there and link it here. :)
