Why belts are better than trains, in one picture:

This doesn't happen to belts, or if it does, the robots will fix it:

Any tips on dealing with this situation? It's very irritating, biters always seem to find a way through my defenses (DW marathon)

It's true, with belts I have to create a network of bots, but with trains, I have to create a network of defenses anyways. So tempting to just use belts.

If biters start to aggro on belts, which they do sometimes, they will eat a big part of that, too.

Maybe, make trains longer, bigger, that they smash through the biters better? There are also mods, which make trains heavier
I don't talk with experience, though, because i mostly make a big perimeter around

Only neat way are mods that will give equipment to trains.
Then you can have some shields/defences on them so they will be able to actively defend themselves.

You have found the answer. more defense

>fire
>dragon teeth
>laser or gun turret as backup

Also upgrade artillery and keep the area clear where trains operate.
If the aliens attack at the same spot build a fortress around the rails to fight them off and to protect the trains.

That's like saying a bicycle's better than a motorcycle because if you wreck you don't get hurt nearly as bad. It's better *by that metric*, but that's not all that matters.

As far as I understand, your complain is = "There is no way how to automate fixing or building trains."

Lets hope the upcoming expansion will be about vehicles. I Could imagine hundred cool stuff to add.
