Tycoon

Post by tycoon »

The 1.0 release of Tycoon is finally here: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/tycoon

Cities are coming to Factorio! With Tycoon you can help cities grow by providing them goods from various supply chains. Enjoy the gameplay style of games like Transport Tycoon or Transport Fever, right in your favourite factory game.

This mod is not an overhaul like Krastorio or Space Exploration, but an extension that gives you more breadth in your playthroughs. It's an additional tree of technologies, factories, and supply lines that eventually lead to more science. But that path is long and hopefully brings you some fun new challenges!

Enjoy more variety with
- organically growing cities,
- passenger transportation,
- 3 new primary resources (apples, wheat, fish),
- 9 new buildings,
- 33 new technologies,
- 33 new craftable items,
- 19 achievements,
- 13 new tips and tricks,
- and currency-funded science.
How should I play it?
You can start by installing it, and then launching a new freeplay. Check out the town hall nearby, and start growing your city. Research housing technologies to upgrade your city and generate currency. Share your city screenshots and feedback in the discussion section of this mod!
Where can I provide feedback?
I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback! Post it below, or hop onto our Discord: https://discord.gg/kwkXUxasNT
Limitations
Multiplayer Desyncs

Tycoon relies on a lot of scripting, and is therefore more likely to cause desyncs in multiplayer sessions. Our last playtest went smoothly without major desync problems, but we had reports of desyncs over the development of this mod. What seems to help if the person with the strongest hardware and best internet hosts the game.

City Roads

Cities ignore roads that you build for them, and set up their own roads instead. Unlike in games like Transport Tycoon, roads have no purpose apart from looking nice and organic.
FAQ
Q: I can't connect pipes to water towers, farms, and stables.

Unfortunately the buildings of this mod don't show pipe connections. Activate the alt-mode to see the fluid inputs and outputs.

Q: My city doesn't grow.

Growth depends on a variety of factors, and tends to be slow. Open the town hall of your city to get an overview of the city's needs.

Firstly, make sure that you're supplying all the necessary construction materials through a hardware store. If the construction materials are present, each housing tier will grow at least every 30 minutes. Provide basic needs like food to boost the growth rate to once per minute, and provide additional needs to boost it even more.

Also make sure that your city has space to grow into. Don't block it with your factories, and remove cliffs if necessary. The city will remove rocks and trees, but will not build over resource patches.

If your city is still stuck, reach out in the Discussions and upload your savegame so that we can take a look.

Q: The city doesn't follow the roads I built.

Cities ignore roads that you build for them, and set up their own roads instead. Unlike in games like Transport Tycoon, roads have no purpose apart from looking nice and organic.

Q: Can I play this with or without biters?

Both yes. Tycoon has no combat mechanics, but cities will rebuild if they get destroyed. The rebuild is much slower than then regular construction, so you have to be patient. Better protect your city from biters and accidental nukes in the first place!

Q: Will you support mod X?

Feature development ends with the 1.0 release. Feel free to ask for mod support, but if it's more than a trivial amount of work it will probably not happen.

Q: The translation for my language is wrong/it has English text.
