[MOD 0.13.x] Fusion Reactor

Fusion Reactor As the name suggests, this mod adds a nuclear fusion reactor into the game which provides continuous power from the get-go. The way this works is that when the reactor is crafted, the fuel is crafted into the reactor. This means that it does not require a continuous fuel intake. Whether this is balanced give the ingredients required to craft it, you lot can decide. I will try to update this mod when Factorio updates, if I forget to don't hesitate to send me a PM. If you have any suggestion or additions you think I could make, again don't hesitate to suggest them and if I stop replying/checking this tread, drop me a PM. Credit to Klonan, as I basically copied the code needed for Control file from his Wind Turbine mod and adapted it to my own needs, link to his Wind Turbine mod http://www.factoriomods.com/mods/wind-turbine

Now the mod is functional but I need someone to create the artwork for it. All the items added by the mod have custom (if you can call them that) icons and textures, but they definitely need improving. So if anyone out there is/knows someone who can do textures and animations you are more than welcome to create some, drop me a PM and a download link and I will add them to the mod and add all the needed credit :)

Oh sweet!

I personally love fusion. Long story behind it, but it has a special place in my heart.

A thought/idea? Perhaps have it require Deuterium & Lithium? Lithium is added in Bob's mods (ores?), & is used to breed into Tritium from the reaction. The Deuterium (very abundant in any sort of water, so maybe just a chemical plant thing?) is then fused with the Tritium?

I'll give it a go here

Yeah, I had planed to have a more complex crafting process, but I didn't think it would suit the standard Factorio style. As an addition for more advanced mods, I'll have a look at it, but probably won't do anything soon.

I wasn't planning on adding screenshot on account of how ugly the un-textured the mod is, but having said showing people what kind of monochrome monstrosity they are in for is probably a good idea :P

Yeah, I had actually forgotten about the pollution factor of the reactor, I will add it in an update next week probably. However I'm not sure if it should be a big amount of pollution as fusion reactors in real life have very few waste products. They will, however, not be 100% efficient in this case, so excess heat which would escape into the atmosphere should probably count to some pollution. I'll have a play around with it.

Though that might just be a by product of them still costing more energy than they produce, and being unable to sustain fusion for more than a few seconds :)

Certainly, *in principle*, we won't have much pollution from fusion, but we don't know for *sure* until we have made a working/sustainable/useful reactor, instead of just an experiment. Who knows what kind of compromises and tradeoffs we will have to make to get from here to useful?

True, but for now I'm going to base the mod off the predictions/sci-fi(?). If Factorio is still a thing once there is a functional fusion reactor in the world, I'll be sure to update the mod accordingly :P

As well I used graphic from Anno for this reactor, in game looks amazing, but without any animation :) I can share it, but can be problem with rights and credits.

Really Like your MODS :) It's giving maximum 5MW power, right?

Aye yeah that's a possible look, add in some shadows and make it a bit more Factorio and we might have a winner :P. And perhaps adding the water requirement for cooling, but then again I'm not sure how possible that is in terms of actually coding it.

I always wondered why the energy generation doesn't evolve the same way as the production capability evolves - you start and finish the game using steam, that's it. So .. thank you for sharing this awsome mod :D

The downside of your mod is that in reality a fusion reactor just like any nuclear reactor doesn't produce any electricity. You'd still be requiring steam engines to make use of a reactor (hint for your next version). And maybe a more adequate production chain for deuterium.

Thanks for the translations and yes, you are right, the reactor should really produce heat, boil water, steam, turbines etc. For the sake of getting ride of my kilometers of solar panels and grey zone of boilers and steam engines, I just wanted to get it into the game :P. Once I have a bit more time, after exam season, I will probably re-work the mod to function in a similar to to yet another of Klonans mods, where-by there is an invisible boiler underneath the "steam engine". The reactor itself would probably still produce the power in terms of look though, at least until I get around to adding in a turbine. When that is the case, the reactor will probably need a constant input of water.

Updated to 0.1.1

Changes:
-updated mod info (JSON file)
-added ru, fr, de, pl and pr-BR translations
-reduced time to research tech, was 40, now 30
-more than doubled reactor power output, was 5 MW, now 12 MW

Planned changes:
-add industrial turbine to generate power
-change reactor to a "boiler" entity, will require water input and output, will also add pollution
-will create a second version of the mod to be compatible with Bobs Mods. This would include mostly recipe changes, possible output changes as well
