Circular Kovarex Enrichment Setup

Hi, I'm quite new here, so please move this thread elsewhere if it is in the wrong place.^^

I just wanted to share a Kovarex enrichment setup that is working quite well for me.

Image

The concept is, that the centrifuges provide each other with U-235, only discharging the excess uranium after each centrifuge has the resources to work properly. U-238 is added from outside the circle. This also works very well when placed along a belt for processed uranium, e.g. next to a uranium mine with centrifuges. (See pictures)

More Pictures:

Sorry if the image is too large, but I am not allowed to post the link to the imgur album and I can't get the spoiler to work.

Your idea/design inspired me to try it with 8 Centrifuges:

My approach detects when the 2 excess U-238 are moved from the previous Centrifuge to the next Centrifuge by one of the Stack inserters. It's a pulse signal on read. This signal triggers the Filter Inserter to output the 1 excess U-235 (with stack size override to 1)... and also pulse triggers to enter 3 more U-238 into the next centrifuge to make up for the loss.

Beacons are a true problem with those circles because if the speed effect isn't symmetrically distributed over all Centrifuges then the faster ones will eventually stall for the slower ones.

Circular should not be a problem, see my attached screenshot, each centrifuge now has 5 beacons working on it.
I love your setup, however.... is it supposed to be manually kickstarted?
If there's an automatic way, i havent found it yet.

Yeah, a manual kickstart is necessary, sadly.

I like these setups more than the ones in the other kovarex thread. They just look good and work.
Altough it takes a while to output U235.

How do you start the process, mine just stops after a spin, Need 40x U235 in each machine, or just in once? Is my problem could be from diferent level of stacker inserter development?

40 U-235 should be enough in one machine, but you also need to provide 2 U-238 in EACH Centrifuge to make it run... but to make all Centrifuges run you eventually need to put 40 U-235 in each Centrifuge as well.

A lot of manual work to get it up and running, which is why I'm not in favor of such circular designs and rather use different ones like those from this thread here: viewtopic.php?f=208&t=45528

This is my previous setup, but also without logistics bots, you can supply a steady stream of U238 (top right), and receive all the excess U235 (lower right).
The outputted U238 is placed on the outer line of the belt, and through the splitter-setup on the right, it is moved onto the inner line,
but all incoming U238, that is, fresh U238 supply, will only be added if there is space,
so this setup never takes in more U238 that the belts hold, and never stalls as the outputted U238 can't clog the system.

- no circuits
- no requestor chests / bots
- U235 perfect efficiency, holds no more than the minimum required U235 at any time
- stable, never stalling for any reasons

[edit:] The 2 substations are for show only, so you can see the setup better, ofc feel free to set up a more efficient power supply if you are going to use this setup. :-)

[edit2:] The outer belt is actually obsolete if you put the U235 also on the inner belt and use filter inserters to extract the U235 from there, now that I think of it, it's pretty stupid to have 2 belts there. :D

well you feed the centrifuges it with 40 U235 in the beginning to kick them off
then after the process is done
the purple filter inserter takes out 1 of the 41 U235 and will be deactivated if any U235 is in the cicuit network (green wire)
the white stack filter inserter takes out 10 each time
the green stack inserter puts in 9 each time , leaving one piece behind on the belt
the belt and stack inserters are part of the cicuit network and while re-feed the centrifuge with U235 there is always 1 piece detected that keeps the purple inserter deactivated

in short: the purple filter inserter will take out only 1 piece of U235 right when the process is complete, while the other inserters are busy it will be inactive

for the U238: supply is on the close side of the belt, output ends up on the far side

Why don't you just have a stack filter inserter pull the U-235 out and place it on a belt which pushes it exactly one space over to another stack filter inserter that immediately pulls it right back in? Just make the belt keep going past the in inserter and any extra it doesn't have room to put into the centrifuge will get spilled right past. It might take a few cycles to buffer it far enough, but it seems like it should be a foolproof method. (I haven't researched the Kovarex process yet.)

Hi fellow factorians. As I have not seen this idea yet around I'll share with you. If I'm wrong and somebody came up with something similar then sorry for repeating. I tried to make a fast responding setup and came up with this:
General view
Main loop
Blueprint

The main idea is using 1 side of the belt for the "cheap" uranium and the other for the expensive xD. The centrifuges unload in an auxiliary belt that goes into the outside of the loop while the cheap uranium comes from the centrifuges that process uranium ore. When it is fed it is quite fast, for the two machines I have producing nuclear fuel I think this is enough for continuous operation. In the beginning I close the output belt so that no "expensive uranium" ends in the assemblers. It takes quite a while until you have all the centrifuges operational.

Just make the belt keep going past the in inserter and any extra it doesn't have room to put into the centrifuge will get spilled right past. It might take a few cycles to buffer it far enough, but it seems like it should be a foolproof method. (I haven't researched the Kovarex process yet.)
the centrifuge will need 40 U235 to start working
it will provide 1 extra every 50 seconds (without modules)
if you let it have all the U235 it likes to grab the centrifuge will collect 80 extra as buffer (2x40 as a buffer for 2 processes)
so after 80 times 50s which is about an hour it will start leaving extra on a belt

this is why it's worth limiting the input
you dont have to ofc :)

I have no clue, if my setup is a good one, but it is freely scalable:

I have a different approach because i want to read out how much U-235 and U-238 i have in the whole system.
So i build a "circle" around the centrifuges and it transports both types around the installation. Its easily expandable to the left or right.

The inner position on the belt contains the 238 and is only fed into - the outer belt contais the 235 which is counted around the whole belt. If there is less than 40, its filled, and if there is more than 60 on the belt its taken out.
There are two circuits - red one for controlling the grapplers, so it cannot interfere with the green circuits which is for total number readouts on the left. Could also put some effect distributors on top.
