Light as general property on entities

Currently only some entity types has light effects such as furnaces, lamps, player and vehicles. I have also seen that it is possible to get around that by catching build events and spawn a lamp on the same position as another entity.
However, moving objects such as biters and spitters cannot have lights. Would it be possible to add a general way to spawn specific light effects on (all) entities. This would enable modders to for example create luminescent monsters, and trees like in Avatar.
A radius effect with parameters intensity, size and color would suffice.
