item-with-entity-data should preserve unit_number

It occurred to me that since these items represent unique entities, the unique identifier of such entity should not change in between its appearances in the world.

Well, the item simply holds the entity equipment grid right now. The logic of preserving the unit number would be a little more complex to implement. Maybe in 0.15 but I'm not promising anything
