Substation converter thing

Would it possible to restrict long power poles to only connect to substations, but substations connect to any?

I want to try and simulate the conversion of high to low voltage and also thing it would be an interesting logistical challenge.

It would be possible. On event, check wire connections and sever offending ones.

On placing a entity of type power pole.
On robot place.
Maybe on remove as well because I think wires auto reconnect.

And on copper wire manual usage.

It should all be possible, yes.

No proper events for that though. I think @Therax had a hack? The other stuff is easy as long as you don't want to support all other mods.

What about starting a fire if small or medium poles are attached to large ones?

You're not thinking Gregtech enough. You want a chain reaction of actual explosions that follow the wire all the way back to your primary power production. Every machine that comes into contact with those wires also needs to explode with a radius and damage extreme enough to explode any neighbours which themselves explode their neighbours, wiping out the last 20 hours of progress.

To answer the question more seriously, there still isn't a "wire attach" event. You could mostly likely catch some/most of them by looking at the entity built events. But there is no event for the manual copper wire snipping/adding. At the end of the day, the wires are mostly cosmetic (except for power switches), which is why the devs consistently refuse to preserve the visual connections in blueprints. So your mod would run the risk of creating blueprints that catch fire when built, which would be highly entertaining, I say go for it.

Can't have both at the same time really.

I don't know this for sure....

But linking is managed with a 'flag'.
so if you can use two flags; one for wooden & steel pole (wire) and a secound flag for large over lande poles (overland wires) and as a linkage a transformator building with both flags then this could be satisfied...

The compatibility with other mods may be frustrated by the requiring of electric energy distribution 2

Unless a tier 0 substation was added
