15.1 high res sprites do not display
Using 15.1 on Steam with Windows 10.
if I choose "high sprite resolution", then certain entities do not appear: transport belts, steam engines, electric pump, burner miner, stone furnace do not show up.
What it looks like on normal resolution: Same build on high resolution:

Post the log, see FAQ.
Re: 15.1 high res sprites do not display
Should I post "cannot find the log file" as a separate bug?
According to the wiki, the Factorio folder is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Factorio
I have this folder, but there are no log files in it:

None of the subdirectories have logs in them either.

You didn't read the FAQ did you? It explicitly says the log file will be in one of these locations: https://wiki.factorio.com/Application_directoryAervanath wrote:Should I post "cannot find the log file" as a separate bug?

Re: 15.1 high res sprites do not display
I did read the FAQ.
Please don't condescend.
The wiki says that for Windows the log files should be in one of the following two locations:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Factorio
C:\Program Files\Factorio
On my PC the 2nd one doesn't exist, and there's no log file in the first one.
So if it is not in either of the two locations that the FAQ says it should be...where is it?

Log files are in %appdata%\Factorio.Aervanath wrote:So if it is not in either of the two locations that the FAQ says it should be...where is it?
Re: 15.1 high res sprites do not display
The wiki says
Now on application directory it mentions the location of the mod and saves directory as
on https://wiki.factorio.com/Log_FileFactorio keeps log files in the Application Directory, that is next to the saves and mods directories.
Now on application directory it mentions the location of the mod and saves directory as
The user data directory is where personal files are stored, such as world saves. Search your computer for this directory, or type it into your file manager address bar.

Re: 15.1 high res sprites do not display
I did not realize that " %appdata%\Factorio" is a HIDDEN FOLDER. (Thank you to my roommate for mentioning this.)

Let me know if you need other logs or the save file, now that I know where they are.
Re: 15.1 high res sprites do not display
Hi, thanks for the log.
It says the game runs on Intel HD Graphics 4600. Do you have laptop with switchable graphics? If you do, you should open nVidia or AMD control center and set it to force using dedicated graphics card for Factorio.
If you don't have nVidia/AMD graphics card Intel HD Graphics 4600 is not suitable to run game on high sprite quality.

Re: 15.1 high res sprites do not display
I'm not sure what "switchable graphics" means.posila wrote:Hi, thanks for the log.

I guess it means an alternative graphics card, which I don't have.
What is it about the Intel card that makes it unsuitable?
I don't want to go get a new card unless I know exactly what I need.
I really want the high res graphics!
Re: 15.1 high res sprites do not display
It is a small graphics processor integrated in your main processor. It is significantly less powerful than most dedicated graphic cards and is sharing the (relatively slow) system memory with the main processor.Aervanath wrote:

Edit: Just to make sure, you are certain that you do not have any dedicated graphics card in your system?
Re: 15.1 high res sprites do not display
Not that I can find:Loewchen wrote: Just to make sure, you are certain that you do not have any dedicated graphics card in your system?
Device Manager -> Display Adapters only displays the Intel HD Graphics 4600 option
I think the problem is that this graphics card has a "dedicated vram" of only 128mb.
However, it has available vram of over 2gb, since it can borrow from the main ram.
I found a way for it to allocate itself 576mb of dedicated video RAM, but that seems to be the maximum.
Anybody know how I can trick it into taking 2gb as dedicated vram?
I have 8gb ram total, taking 2 gb for vram shouldn't be such an issue.
