Factorio does not launch

I can launch any other games in Steam but not Factorio anymore.
It's a fresh install in Windows 11.

I tried reinstalling Steam and Factorio but the problem persists.
I could not find any problem in Steam logs.

It tries to launch, and then it stops. The game does not start.

Do you see the loading screen or does it seem to stop before showing it ?

I don't see the loading screen. The closest thing to the launch is that icon I circled in red in the first pic.

it makes me uncertain a factorio log is even generated, but if it is the case, you should try to provide it for someone more knowledgeable to look at it, you can find more information to locate the files and how to upload them there : https://wiki.factorio.com/Log_file

I don't use the Steam cloud very much, but the cloud icon beside Factorio with the little yellow/orange dot makes me think that steam is having trouble syncing your cloud saves. If that is the case, then Steam might be waiting for those to finish syncing before launching Factorio.

I thought the same. As other games work, I think it must be something wrong with factorio files. This started to happen after I formatted my computer and installed win 11 (previously I had win 10). Maybe Factorio is having trouble using the files coming from the cloud? There is no option to delete it in Steam. Only the game publisher can do it.

I went to the folder C:\Users\$user\AppData\Roaming\Factorio and deleted all the files (downloaded from Steam Cloud).
When starting Factorio it downloaded it all again successfully. The game did not start and no log has been written.

This is very bad. How can I report the problem if not even the logs are created?
I have the latest patch of Win 11, and the latest versions of Steam and Factorio installed. I had uninstalled my antivirus previously.

Plus, as the image shows, "the game Files integrity verification" is doing fine.

I can start any game except Factorio. I am running out of ideas.

The next thing I would try is to download it directly from the Factorio.com web site (do you have a user name there?) and then try the standalone version. This would help you know whether it's a Factorio issue or a Factorio+Steam issue.

All of the issues you’re seeing are things steam is doing and are out of our control. You’ll need to contact steam and or use steams support system to figure out why steam won’t launch the game. Sorry.

Try disabling Steam cloud sync for just Factorio as well (or use the master setting for them all as a test). If doing this you can launch, then that means it's definitely an issue with whatever Steam is trying to sync to your PC.

I just tried it. Same result.

Does the zip version of the game have the same issue?

I installed the standalone version and, surprisingly, this is happening.

You have windows 11 N, which specifically excludes media related things - which Factorio needs. https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsHelp/co ... l_was_not/

So it does not work in any way. Do the error message helps?

Standalone, zip, same thing. :)

Note what Rseding said above, though:

Tip from Reddit:
Need to install Media Pack. Can do this by opening up Powershell as Administrator and running this cmdlet:

DISM /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Media.MediaFeaturePack~~~~0.0.1.0

Restart computer and you can now get rid of that error.

This solved the issue. The media pack was the problem.

Thanks!
