From the page on the electric-pole prototype:

Prototype/ElectricPole — electric-pole
pictures :: RotatedSprite
supply_area_distance :: float
active_picture :: Sprite (optional)
connection_points :: table of WireConnectionPoint (optional)

From my log file after I removed connection_points from the prototype definition:

5.654 Mods to disable:Failed to load mods: Error while loading entity prototype "bi-musk-mat-pole" (electric-pole): Key "connection_points" not found in property tree at ROOT.electric-pole.bi-musk-mat-pole

Looks like it isn't optional after all! Could you fix that, please?
