Adjusting the Darkness of Night

It looks like the Night Darkness is hard coded. Could you please change this so we could MOD how dark it gets. I'd like the night to be totally dark.

Darkness and night vision are completely hard coded in the game. The only thing you can do is disable night completely ('game.alwaysday=true'), build more lamps or increase the brightness on your monitor as micomico suggests.
THANKS!

It would be nice to adjust it to be a touch brighter too for youtube.

Bump,
Please make Night Darkness a variable and not hard coded to a min of 0.3.
Thanks.

I'd second this - game can get very black during night which means it's difficult to do anything then.

Ha Ha, my reason is actually the exact opposite. I want it to be totally dark (black), since I feel lights are totally useless. I started on a mod to make bigger better lights, but until I can adjust the darkness to total black I don't feel it's worth much.
You need to be afraid of the dark on a strange alien planet!

I understand the climatic part of night - but depending on your monitor/light conditions game can become unreadable. Needing to adjust gamma by outside means is not fun

Indeed, gamma correctur is the keyword.
Myst 2 (? or 3?) had such controls: A picture with fine dark and light grey and controls that should be moved until you see all greys...

I'd say go one further, and give us options for when it gets light/dark, and the abillity to also adjust at what brightness Solar panels start/stop working (so you can have them still working slightly when it's dark, or stop working with even the slightest drop in brightness, etc).

Please don't mix that. The suggestion is some game-setup/configuration option. Yours is a map configuration!

I, too, would like to reduce the light level at night, because I see better in the dark.

I just registered here to also request this. I'm currently working on a timelapse mod and the biggest problem I face right now is that nighttime is barely seeable and changing the game to all time daylight changes the gameplay...
Being able to change the nighttime darkness would fix a lot of problems

I barely bought the game and can't seem to change the brightness levels at night. Look, I don't want to change the gameplay for solar electrical production but I can't freakin' see at night!!! let me make some useful lamps that I can create some distance to see by or be able to turn the brightness up or SOMETHING! This is starting to become quite frustrating.

How dark the night is seems to depend on your monitor and gamma settings. There are night vision goggle available (although you will need to play for a while before you can research and equip them). There are also mods that add larger light areas near the player (eg Afraid of the Dark).

I don't know if anyone is still reading this, but since 0.17 just came out, I needed to re-edit Shader files again for "my" vision issues.
Note that you have to launch game with --force-opengl to get the shader changes to work.
I have removed night by editing game.frag and removing the zoomed in radar "random noise" by editing zoom-to-world.frag
For always day, just replace everything in "void main()" inside file "game.frag" with
use_nightvision = _15.nv_intensity > 0.0;
vec2 uv = vUV;
vec4 color = texture(gameview, uv);
fragColor = color;
Its working fine for me on 0.17 atm.
