It might be nice for mod developers if they had a way to view what proportion of recent players have any given value of a mod setting.

Pretty much impossible. This requires (a) collecting players' telemetry, (b) sending it to Wube, and then (c) giving it to third-parties (mod devs). All of these are both non-trivial tasks, potential security risks, and violations of current privacy policy.

That would be very unlucky but indeed it's could leak private stuff if people put into parameter some personal stuff. One should exclude at least every string parameter. I would love such feature but it's would require explicit and clear agreement from the player.
