Upgrade Planner Compatibility with Modded Rolling Stock

Rolling stock are currently not compatible with the upgrade planner. As a result, it takes a lot of manual effort (or a hackey mod, like the old Train Upgrader) to upgrade existing train systems to use compatible modded trains. This makes many modded trains less desirable, as people will unlock modded trains, but not change their rail networks to use them. It would be optimal to have a built-in solution that preserves train schedules/groups/interupts.

Idea 1) Allow rolling stock changes via upgrade planner. (Provided the rolling stock are the right segment lengths and type.)

Idea 2) A generalized way to allow X => Y via upgrade planner. This would effectively require a way to tell the engine to allow two items to be connected via upgrade planner, and an event for custom code to be executed at the time that such an upgrade is done.

I’m putting this as a modding interface request because you would need modded rolling stocks for this situation to even come up.

One of the main reasons rolling stocks are not effected by quality in space-age is that they simply do not at an engine level support the concept of being upgraded.

That is also why they are not supported in the upgrade planner - the engine can't do it (it crashes/segfaults if it ever tries to do the action anyway).
