Configuring Long Inserters in Bobs+Angels Without Adjustable Inserters Mod

Hello everyone,
I’ve just reached the long inserters stage in my first serious Bobs+Angels playthrough.
Since the Adjustable Inserters mod isn’t installed on my server, I’ve noticed that researching “Long Inserters 1” only gives one way to build them: start with a regular inserter, go to the top blue icon, enable reach overrides, select Long Handed Inserter, place it, then uncheck Long Handed Inserter and finally disable reach overrides.
My main goal is to reclaim my red long inserters that were repaired but are now operating slowly.
I find it frustrating that there’s no clear visual indicator (apart from using alt-mode) to show an inserter’s reach, and that I have to manually check boxes to make it long. Also, I’d prefer my inserters not to automatically become long-handed.
Is there any way to configure this behavior? Perhaps a separate mod or a script that can help?
