Adding machine gun train wagons could offer defense to artillery trains on the frontlines.

I like this. It could offer some extra defense for trains/outer stations at the cost of extra logistics and train speed. While also enabling fun/creative defensive and offensive strategies.

Feature (sort of) exists: you can use the Spidertron remote to "Follow" a Train with a defensive spider.


Or there are mods to add Equipment Grids to Wagons.
