[2.0.73] Multiplayer Steam & Website compatible?

Hi everyone,
I would like to play Factorio together with a friend of mine. I bought the website version while she bought the steam version. We now intend play multiplayer via the steam feature, because we had technical problems previously (see here). I linked my accounts, so I have Factorio in my steam library as well. Now I have two questions:
1. Do I need to install the game via steam? Steam tells me the game is not installed, even though it is (just not via steam). I would really like to avoid re-installing the game, if possible.
2. If not, how do we start a multiplayer session?
