[2.0.76] Linux Steam Auto Cloud save folder can't be (permanently) removed

Hello, I've been playing this game for 10+ years on Windows but recently switched to Linux due to Windows becoming more and more unwieldy. Currently I'm trying to unclutter my home directory a bit and I just can't get rid of the ~/.factorio folder because Steam keeps regenerating ~/.factorio/saves/steam_autocloud.vdf despite Steam Cloud being disabled. Moving all the other files wasn't an issue with the help of the wiki and the config.ini solution documented there.
I have disabled Steam Cloud directly in Steam (right click Factorio -> Properties -> General -> Keep game's saved in the Steam Cloud for Factorio) and after that didn't help I also disabled the ingame blueprint library sync setting but the steam autocloud file still keeps coming back.
Ideally Factorio would simply use LinuxXdgDataHome instead of LinuxHome as it's default Steam Auto Cloud location (as documented here) on Linux like other games do too. This would also more closely mirror how Factorio handles saves and other user data on Windows, where they aren't just dumped into a new folder in %USERPROFILE% but instead get properly saved to AppData.
