I hoping to make some more land grabs, and was wondering if the biters will continue to spread to areas that have pollution.

Yes, they will. They only check if they are not too close to another alien base or to player building.

Yeah. If you don't want them spreading to that location again, just drop a couple gun towers loaded with AP ammo. colonization groups generally don't pack Larges, and standard turrets are great 'drop and forget' weapons requiring no further support like power. If anything does take them out, you'll have an early warning.

I just place wooden chests or poles every now and then in the wilderness to prevent enemy spawning
