The content of the installation has been changed, most likely by adding or renaming files, to perform the update you need to undo the changes. If that is not possible, just reinstall.

I have not changed anything - I run plain vanilla

Hm, the message mentions a specific file and not a directory as I had assumed, so Ill reopen it, if you just want the update, I think its faster to just reinstall than waiting for a fix.

Right - a reinstall solved the "magic" problem. Thanks for the hint

It could be random data corruption in the executable, or something else, if this happens again, please attach the executable itself somewhere so I can compare it to what it should be.
