For the first and second time I booted up the game, all the sounds were incrediblly delayed, now every sound happens on time- except they all sound beautifully low quality, to the point of it just sounding like bare noise.
My linux distro is Ubuntu 14.04LTS

Unrelated idea: I assume you're using an nVidia GPU?
(If you were running Intel, you'd miss most of the graphics, If you were running Radeon, youd' miss half of the letters.)
Have you tried running another similar software since upgrade/installation?
I would be surprised if only factorio was affected,

Yep, running Nvidia, I have been able to run everything else, all the games I've tried on wine are fine (including factorio on wine), so it might just be for factorio.

I am experiencing the same thing. The sound is delayed around a second. Especially noticeable when harvesting, where the chop is out of sync.
I am running Kubuntu 14.04. I have an AMD card with catalyst 14.4 driver. not that I understand what my graphics card has to do with delayed sound.
I am running various games on the same machine, only factorio seems to be affected.
Anyone has an idea about what is causing this?
When running from console these lines are repeated over-and-over
Code: Select all
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
libpng warning: iCCP: cHRM chunk does not match sRGB

				This is a duplicate of

The libpng warnings are (should be) non-critical, I made a post in known issues for it:
