So am I not supposed to use these two mods together?

I have a factory where I am processing saphirite into iron plate like this: crusher - flotation cell- ore sorting machine - ore processing machine - pellet press - blast furnace -induction furnace - casting machine.

the thing is, I read somewhere that the smelting mod was a replacement for the refining mod. So now I am very confused and wondering if I should not combine those two processing chains and just use one or the other.

Refining turns the 6 weird ores into vanilla-esque ores. Smelting is for output multiplication (though if you're playing with bob's mods, you'll get more multiplication out of a high tier furnace and bob's productivity modules)

They're two different things AFAIK.

The smelting mod isn't a replacement for the refining mod, it (together with the bio-processing mod) is a replacement for the old processing mod (which was never officially updated for 0.14).
