Forced update on Steam causing bugs?

I don't remember ever signing into a beta branch, but not long ago my game updated and the changelog stuff came up. (couldn't tell you when).

A mod I have (Decu) provided an Electrical Energy Interface that suddenly stopped working (I hadn't played the game for a few days) and on the latest experimental, it was draining all of my power and not charging (480 megawatts being produced by turbines at full blast), while consumption statistics only showed a total of around 240 megawatts for all my things.

I turned mods on and off (including that mod), which didn't solve it, but rolling back to 17.69 seems to have solved it. Not sure why my game updated or how to find out what was causing the issue.

Not sure what help you expect, if a mod has issues in the latest version of the game you can inform the mod author and it might get fixed.
.69 is no longer the latest stable, so you either have to deactivate updates for factorio in steam or download the standalone if you intend do stay on that version.

17.69 is the latest stable, as indicated by Steam:

I did contact the mod author to let them know. Thank you for replying.

Edit: Nevermind, opting out of beta puts it back to 17.74. That's annoying.

I forgot to update the Steam branch descriptions; I've done it now, but it might take some time for your client update the information.
Anyway ... there was some fix for accumulator desync in between 0.17.69 and 0.17.74, maybe the fix broke something. You should consider making a proper bug report.
