Re: Version 2.0.45

It was just to clarify the source of your information when you said about the need to ignore worms, i wasn't sure if it was new, or just based on no information, just something you made up.

Since you already did something similar on this thread about the rules of speedrunning, and how they ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

Anyone who watched a speedrun would exclude me. It takes enough time to do my own run (and touch grass) that I'm not one to watch speedruns.

That explains why everything you said so far was wrong or innacurate but not so much why you feel the need to spread it.

Looks as if I'm in good ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

If you are trying to get the Keeping your hands clean achievement, you'd also have to ignore worms, but otherwise that's a viable solution.

The underlined part is incorrect. You can/should kill the worms.

Absent confirmation from someone who's destroyed one and still earn the achievement ...

Are you sure of that ? because it seem wrong to me, it seem that you have to kill the worms and not ignore them

Re: Version 2.0.45

Can't you just build around the biter nests a bunch of pipes so the biters don't spawn? And surround them with turrets that ignore nests?

Minor Features

Cars and tanks will automatically snap to one of the 8 major directions if within a few degrees.

And another mod made useless by making the game better πŸŽ‰ Took you long enough :)

The vehicle steering, balancing and fulgora cliff graphics are very interesting to me!

Re: Version 2.0.45

Only those in an active game pre 2.0.45 who are not on a beta branch, and get the forced auto-update from Steam, will benefit by having the game they started continue with the existing rules they started with.

This is not correct, it will also benefit all players that decide to willfully ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

Just an update:
1. In the next release, all saves started with version prior 2.0.45 will not have the achievements limited the new way.

I really appreciate this accommodation. I've been thinking about it, however. I wonder if it is worth the development effort. It seems like it's going to re ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

Everyone knows that the settings the speed runners are completing the game on is not in the spirit of Factorio.

Would you be so kind as to define the 'spirit of Factorio' to this mere mortal, please.

In 1.1, without turning on peaceful mode or reducing the enemy base size and frequency below ...

Exactly , i think you should apologize for wrongfully claiming things about the timing of the decision, when it was following a player's report.

And i think it would also have been fair to apologize to speedrunners from ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

Lastly, thank you for making the mods. I won't be one of the users, yet I'm sure there will be a fair number of users. Like every other mod, they increase player choice and enhance the game for that choice. 100% appreciated.

With one caveat: any mod from portal switches achivements into modded ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

Problem not quite fully "solved":

As a note, a potential mod to revert to pre-.45 behavior won't be simple.
Removing allowed_without_fight allows you to set map generation to anything including more favorable map settings than before (e.g. biter nest size <100%).
So such a mod may be possible ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

In the past, there was always the rule of no biter/fight related achievement when you turn the peace mode on, as it basically doesn't make any sense. What kind of achievement is it to play without laser turrets for example, when no attack comes at all, as you have peaceful mode.

In the meantime ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

Never been 'qualified' for speedrunning, never checked their rules very deep.

It's not too late ! rules are available at : https://www.speedrun.com/factorio =)

I'm so far below any potential time for a submission that the rules mean little to me.
I do see that they have that requirement ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

Two methods. First is, of course, the published save-game. That's only partially reliable, currently, however as nothing tracks the loading or unloading of mods in the game, only the present state of modded or not.

Not correct , people use the replay system which as you say :

if the option ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

In the current, 2.0.45, state of the game you can start a new vanilla Space Age game on pure default settings, not even bothering to preview the map.
Tab past the cut scene, save and exit. Enable the Editor extension mod and reload the game.
Working through the tech tree to unlock the discovery ...

Re: Version 2.0.45

Having read enough on the Steam forums about 'cheesing' mods, it would be a good idea to include a consistency check that the starting mods remain the only mods for the entire game. The checks for this are already built into the code with the replay save feature.

I'd actually argue against ...

Thanks again.

Re: Version 2.0.45

I'm 160 hours in. This change is going to make it so I can't earn achievements anymore on this save? Really?

No, you can still earn achievements on the save, just not all of them, considering some of them require you to finish the game in less than 40 hours, those were already locked away ...
