Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
The score is still slightly better than Avona's symmetrical cross, using the exact same rail layout, just slightly differently placed signals. Is there some variance in the testing or something? It could be a variety of things. Signal placement could have some effect on how the trains interact. I a...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Tried testing newly designed intersections and I got slightly different results on my naive intersection updated for 2.0 (one plane) than similar looking Avona's "Symmetrical Cross". Likely because of a bit different signalling on right turns. It's more than the right turns, it's the fact...

Test results for it: Inner Roundabout Test.png Test results for bypass version: Inner Roundabout Bypass Test.png Would love for these intersections to be added to the main post. Make sure to include safe exit blocks. All of the intersections have been scored with safe exit blocks, so your results a...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Can you back that up with any test data? How much throughput does it cost to have chain signals before the splits? I've tested it before but didn't keep the data. I finally had some free time today so I tested the wide you showed in your earlier post as it comes normally and with the entry rail sig...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
If instead the intersection starts with a chain signal the train will come to rest before the intersection and over time an alternative path can become cheaper and then it switches and takes that path and can leave the intersection. In my base long ago, I watched trains sit at chain signals for min...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Thanks a lot for your thorough analysis and suggestions! Your intersection was well made and deserved a thorough analysis. Comparing the two designs, I see you're using signals generally every 3 car lengths instead, which might explain a lot of the difference. Is there a less-is-more rule hidden he...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
When a train arrives at the intersection it will have a path already picked to cross it and it will go past the first signal. At that point the path is locked in, there is no way the train can repath when there is congestion to drive around a blockage. Like I previously said, when a train's braking...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
I think the earlier a chain signal is in a series is the better. The game will reserve a stretch of chain signals in it's entirety so for reserving it doesn't matter where the middle chain signals are. But when the train crosses it frees segments as it leaves them. So the earlier the chain signal t...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Is there any obvious issue with this design? Any easy improvements? First of all, well done. Your adaptation is well thought out. I haven't been playing too much Factorio lately and your intersection tickled my fancy, so I rebuilt it from scratch to see if I would do anything differently within the...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
When I tested Delta back in the day, I got scores in the 45-46 tpm range. I brought this up to Hans, but differed to Hans' testing. I forget what he said. Perhaps he optimized something.

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Sorry, can not understand the problem, please explain. I can confirm, that turning to the right (from top) blocks the train, which turns to left (from bottom), it is expected behaviour for unbuferred intersections (and for buffered probably as well). Why not just use the Wide instead? The only adva...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
This situation is imposible, train can not move to top from bottom-right line as well as can not move to bottom from top-left line. Probably you mean the mirror situation, but here there is not differences in comparing to SQUAREABOUT (it is not an issue for this intersection): Yes, I put the arrows...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
There are no reason to design any intersections again, just these simple ramps and mergers. There are non-ramp intersections possible that are more compact. Ramp tech comes later, so there will still be a place for non-ramp intersections. Even though there are fewer possibilities because of ramps, ...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Doing some handwavy math, does this mean that 2 lane intersections will always be limited to a score of ~100 with regular merges, and ~130 with high-speed merges? In practice, regular merges can get slightly higher because trains will not always come to a stop. The high score of 33-34 tpm is genera...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Hello! 1. Is there some intro writeup to intersection design? I see a bunch of patterns repeated in multiple of the intersections here, some of which make sense in retrospect but some of them are a mystery to me. I have not seen any advanced intersection writeup. Most tutorials go over the signals. ...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
Also, as we need some more cursed intersections... We absolutely need more cursed intersections lol. I love it! Unfortunately, when I went to test it with the new mod, I got variable results (set 3 incorrectly testing). So I tried to test with the 5.3.3 bench as well and got good scores with RHT bu...

Re: 3 and 4 way intersections
could some one tell me if this is a decent intersection I would suggest posting your BP to the Factorio discord server. There is a channel named "train-help" were you could get exhaustive help from many people. The closest intersection to yours appears to be the Buffered Compact Attempt ....
