A propose a different solution. Have u considered using linear gradients? U can use the slope as well as height to control how fluids would behave in the pipe. The height would be proportional to the liquid contents inside of the segment. The slope would be determined by the pumps pulling or pushing...

I don't understand, why not make the updates per game tick dynamic? can u not incrementally increase the updates, till performance reaches a certain point? than stop there? This would allow faster pc's to run more updates. I use the mod and run about 10-20 updates. Which works totally fine for me.

Will u be able to connect the new rail system to the old one? Or should I start replacing the old one with the new one as soon as I update?
