I tested this without the infinity pipe and just checked again with the latest updates. Filled some tanks with the infinity pipe on one end. Then purged the pipeline. Removed the infinity pipe completely. Then connected the tanks and the far tank still filled up, despite being an over-extended ...

I was making a wall of flamethrowers and realized that there was oil in the pipe that was overextended.
