Re: Add option for mixed Quality in Assemblers
1/ productivity-quality exploit. During development there was an option for any quality recipe where a base rolled quality was lowest quality of provided ingredients. There was however exploit when using productivity modules: a machine could be fed normal quality ingredients that would "charge...

Re: Ability to craft lower quality with higher quality
To clarify, I'm thinking of explicit down-binning, that the player would have to deliberately setup, not automatic. So, there wouldn't be mysteriously disappearing quality. Ah, I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding. However in practice this is still not much better. The crux of the issue is that th...

Re: Ability to craft lower quality with higher quality
Rather than allowing higher quality items as inputs, I think it would make more sense to be able to down- bin excess items of a given quality by turning them into a lower quality. This is directly analogous to how excess high-quality items are handled in real-world manufacturing, which is to simply...

I've been putting a lot more thought into this and why things were probably done the current way and I've realized there is a legitimate reason why machines were not given the ability to handle mixed results (although I believe its solvable.) A very serious practical concern is that different qualit...

Re: Ability to craft lower quality with higher quality
Initially when I first researched quality modules and started putting them in machines I thought this is more or less how it would work, based on the word of FFF #375 and because I naturally assumed it would work in an intuitive way. I was very excited to see if placing them very early in a producti...

Re: Friday Facts #431 - Gleba & Captivity
I have strong feelings about the difference in visual design between the synthetic biter nest and the biolab. In contrast to the biolab, having the organic parts of the synthetic biter nest directly exposed and getting to see more of how it ripples and warps is extremely visually satisfying, and its...
