Re: Foundry logic for railgun shells
Too much how? I could fit 4 of these on my larger platforms!
Also, standard rockets work for early end game, but later on, you definitely want red if you're going to get anywhere near the shattered planet. You don't need the extra explosive force of the yellow rockets, because you have updated ...

Re: Foundry logic for railgun shells
...It's so depressing, if I compare this mess with the beautiful 4 foundry layout where you just connect some output with some input, no storage tanks, no trash handling, just input ingredients and output products.

Re: Foundry logic for railgun shells
Doesn't matter as long as ammo production exceeds consumption per trip. Steel and copper wire are infinite in space.
It's never enough though, is it? The available production rate just defines the maximum safe speed and/or trip turnaround time. Especially on space platforms, squeezing out the ...

Re: Foundry logic for railgun shells
I think being exact may be too problematic. A different option may be to set recipe based on the absence of a material at a specific part of the down-trace belt when hold read. Use two filtered stack inserters placing the two ingredients on different sides of the belt so there isn't a hold ...

Re: Gleba has killed the game for me.
If you let fruits (jellynut and yumako) spoil before you process them into jelly and mash, you get no chance at a seed. You need seeds to make Gleba work. You need to use biochambers to process your fruit so that you get the 50% production bonus and thus more seeds out than fruit in. DO NOT ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
When I initially tested some defense strategies on Gleba, I found that very little to nothing about defending against biters/worms was applicable to Gleba natives.
A defense perimeter of turrets and walls? Stomper walks over the wall and potentially becomes aggressive due to the presence of ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
I've seen this issue described here multiple times, and my reaction is always the same.
You absolutely can build up Gleba step by step, I know because I did. The automation challenge of Gleba is to deal with spoilage in your factory, i.e. every chest, belt, machine that deals with spoilable ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
The aesthetic of concrete was meant as a figurative of speech.
Paving everything isn't a viable long-term workaround, regardless.
I didn't say it was.
I already gave you an example in the post that you quoted.
IE: Hypothetically, I am temporarily shutting down Gleba because I am not using ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
You may find the aesthetic of paving the entire world pleasing. Other engineers, including me, may feel differently and not want to pave everything.
Even if that was an option for fixing the visual issue on Gleba, Gleba does not have a decent source of stone to pave the Gleba surface in the ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
But the enemy contact...what's the allergy to adjusting Gleba enemy settings until one learns? The settings exist separately of Nauvis and I absolutely encourage new players to adjust biter settings all the way to peaceful mode if they need to learn with less pressure.
It's probably because ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
Factorio has had a few basic rules that I like very much. One of those rules is that you can pause at any time, nothing ever goes away by itself. Need to fix something in your factory, just remove or rotate a belt and everything stops, you fix what you need fixing, you undo your blocker and ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
Master - yes. But you can get a "good enough" Space platform really easily due to good game progression: you need a space platform to get space science so you have to first build one in the safest space enviroment you have - Nauvis orbit.
Sure, in objective terms it is rubbish, but it works well ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
I wanted to add my cents to the conversation in this thread.
I've been busy defending Gleba as a concept so I wanted to address your specific listed points:
Terrains are challenging to discern where I can build/grow or can't.
Having to take into account spoilage everywhere. Input, output ...

Re: Perfect Ratio Bioflux production
Finally got a direct inserter Bioflux system. This design can auto recover from most stalls. Can produces a bit under 12 biofluxes per second (with some diverted to nutrient production).
Spoilage and seeds are outputted to the right side.
The only circuit control is to control the restart system ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
Looking at the responses and how debated Gleba is, it seems to be enough people for a developer to go "huh, maybe we should look at this again". Maybe not your run of the mill AAA developer, but Wube that really seemed to strive for perfection?
Not really, but then this "second look" is ...

Re: They need to rename Gleba to Bartleby
You don't need to constantly have the freshest goods to adequately manage spoilage.
Yes - I know. I have, for want of a better term, beaten Gleba. That wasn't the point.
The beauty of Factorio is that it provides a rich palette of tools that allow you to create pleasing and elegant things. I ...
