I use pumps like you described directly before and after the input and output mass pipes. I just have the problem, that the mass input pipe needs to much water as that 8 parallel standard pipes would be enough and its effect gets weaker at a distance. Asside from the clear waste of area^^

An easier option would be using a mod like WaterWell, which is basically a pumpjack for water you can place anywhere, and pumps up ground water. Bit cheat-y but still works. Yes, thats what i did. I did many more tests though, blown about 100 bombs, everytime trying to creat lakes (small lakes) and not just waterholes. But even with the data file edited it could not be done. I just want to have a `terraforming`mod which allows you to create water where you like and land...
