Agreed, 14.3 is night and day compared to the latest stable branch (13.20) as far as multiplayer stability goes...

Are you sure they aren't spawning? Sometimes it's hard to tell when you first login to a new map whether they are there or not. Sounds like you're starting your server correctly, but without Radar set up or any pollution being generated you might have to explore a bit before you encounter any aliens.

In my experience the absolute minimum you will need for a ~4 player server is 1gb which will be consumed quickly and you may experience some lag, especially as your factory grows. 2gb would be optimal.
