I found it worked really well if, from the edge of the fireball, it did some decreasing level of damage across a wider area, this may also allow a smaller fireball, with similar effects. This would help it to be more player-friendly, as they would tend to resist low damage better than other entitie...

I really loved the chemical science pack recipe changes for 0.17 - but these oil-related changes - please don't change the recipes/requirements/tech tree (disabling one refinery input is awesome though)! I found them being balanced perfectly in 0.17 so far Chemical science pack unlocks damn advanced...

Reporting another occurrence in 0.16.5. Attaching the reproducible save and the log. To reproduce just remove the nearest pole to the player (pretty much where the player stands), no other actions needed to be done.
