Re: Connectedness needs to be clearly indicated f. Power Pol
I think it might be better if the square around the held Electric Pole changes colour, e.g. from blue'ish to red.

Connectedness needs to be clearly indicated f. Power Poles
When placing Electric Poles, especially Medium and Big ones, I have to sit there and squint at the screen to determine whether there is or is not an ultra-thin copper-coloured line going from one already-placed Electric Pole to the one which I'm now trying to place. That's bad UI design. The UI alre...

Do the Radars make the aliens attack sooner?
I usually don't build Radars until mid game or so (about 2 to 3.5 hours in) because I have a sense maybe they cause the aliens to begin attacking sooner. But on the other hand, I'm too busy to explore the map manually, and that means I have zero clue as to where the alien sites are. What if I'm wron...

Game should show me total amount of items (e.g. Belts)
When I'm laying down Transporter Belts, the game shows only how many there are in the current stack, e.g. 23, 22, 21, 20, counting down as I lay them, and if the remaining stacks are in my Inventory, not in my Tool Belt, then I have no way of knowing how many I have, so I don't know what will happen...

Joined into this thread -- ssilk Everything else in Factorio is about thinking ahead, doing the Grand Mastermind Plan. How do I "tune" game difficulty, postpone 1st alien attacks?
The game seems to lack a genuine difficulty setting slider. I can control the size of alien Nests, and how common they are, and how strong they are, but as for alien attacks, I can either have them enabled or disabled, as a binary thing. If disabled, they won't happen until I start attacking their n...

Re: How can I control production amounts better?
Science Packs remain in the chest until I come get them and move them manually to the Research Building-feeding Belt. That's what inserters are for. But if I limited a Chest to, e.g., 50 units of content, and then have an Inserter taking stuff out of the chest, then I don't accomplish any...

Re: How can I control production amounts better?
Yes, non-looped belt is the answer. To limit production, output items into a chest. It will stop when the chest is full. Click and drag the X button in the chest to change its capacity. But that won't work if I want the stuff moved from the chest onto the Belt to my Research buildings. It'll only w...

How can I control production amounts better?
I like having one huge looped belt, with Iron Plates on one side and Copper Plates on the other. I think of this as the Grand Belt or Central Metal Pool. And then I have Assembly Machine grabbing what they need from it, and moving intermediate stuff to each other. Red Science Packs are made by 3 Mach...

Re: Does the game know my screen resolution?
If you have those set to high already, then I'm not really sure what the problem could be. That's why I'm thinking that there's some game config file, somewhere, that says 1280x960 or 1024x768, or something like that, in spite of my screen being 1600x1200, and resulting in things looking like crap ...

Re: ESC Button to exit from map
IMO, this should be implemented as it is expected behavior for most people. Yup. As you say, expected behaviour. We already have a bunch of extremely well-established conventions for how PC computer game interfaces should function, and Factorio ought to acknowledge and respect them. Doing their own...

Re: Exclude toolbelt items when manual crafting
Something that has bothered me for a while now is that when manually crafting an item that requires another often-used item as a component (for instance, and perhaps most noticable, pipe-to-ground using 10 pipes). Especially when the amount of components consumed is big, it can get a bit frustratin...

Re: whats a good starting strategy?
Electric Inserters seem, according to their stats, to have both a power drain for existing, and an additional power value (which rightly should be an energy value - power is energy per time unit, i.e. 1 watt is 1 joule per second ) for usage. I'm going into the game, loading a saved situation, to se...

Can I remove rocks and other obstructions?
Often, trees and other game terrain objects gets in the way of my grand plans. Trees I can just cut down. But is there anything I can do about the various rocks? They appear to have a Health stat, thus suggesting that they can be destroyed, but neither my Iron Axe nor the later Steel Axe has any eff...

Re: Burner inserter should take the first coal itself
Less tedium is always an improvement, though I don't know if getting free energy is the best solution. One way you could balance this would be for the recipe to require one coal or wood. Then when you place it has a full bar of energy which it can use to fuel itself. Each item-movement by a Burner ...

Re: Can I cheat to grant myself 2 technologies at game start
Thanks, but the console command is actually quicker, since I can copy/paste it into the game. Only problem was having to go into the game's settings and re-configure the keypress to bring up the console, since in my install it said "key60" which I don't know what is, and anyway non-alphabe...

Re: Supression of the size shift of electric furnaces
Accepting the logic that Electric Furnaces must be bigger than Stone and Steel ones, why does the footprint have to be 3x3? The earlier Furnaces have a footprint of tiles, and yes the Electric Furnace clearly must have a larger footprint, but what if that larger footprint wasn't 3x3 but instead 2x3 ...
