Re: My take on using steam as a backup. Works perfectly for me.
Hi guys, I haven't been playing factorio for the past few months. Have people found any further way to refine this?

Re: Switching on power plants automatically when needed
This can be seen also the other way around, Saadli. You can build more steam engines, when the tanks are filled: Instead of only 10 steam engines, you can built up to 20, with the same number of boilers. Doubling the generated energy just by using the day/night cycle and a buffer. Yeah, that's exac...

Re: Switching on power plants automatically when needed
The only real advantage of using the storage tanks like I had in the other thread, is the fact that you can use less boilers. A tank full of hot water should last you longer than a blackout, so you should have all day to fill it up again, meaning you don't need a full set of boilers.

Re: Tired of babysitting expansions? Auto-supply w/ trains!
Yeah, I've seen that. But there's no way I'm setting that up on every outpost. I guess I'll dump the repair kits onto a chest then. I have the train unload (robots and repair kits) directly into the roboport, and this way it fills it up, despite the filter on the smart inserter. You can dump the re...

I think it might be possible to rebind the key to something other than middle click in the settings menu. I haven't tried but I know you can rebind most keys.

Re: Perfect 1:6 splitter
In your first picture, the splitter which still still has the one copper left in it - why is it there? You're only using one output so why not just replace it with belts?

Re: My take on using steam as a backup. Works perfectly for
I did some testing and you're totally right, only 3 pumps are required. This is good because it lets the system run longer per cycle and so it's easier to set it up exactly how you want.

Re: Tired of babysitting expansions? Auto-supply w/ trains!
Alternatively, unload everything with fast inserters and sort it out back at base with a sorting system of smart inserters. I'm not sure I see a reason you would want to do it that way, when you could just be smart about what you unload. Or you could have it all loaded into an isolated logistic net...

Tired of babysitting expansions? Auto-supply w/ trains!
This is a pretty basic principle but I've noticed that a lot of people haven't picked up on it so I thought I'd do a post. This is my current map: http://i.imgur.com/4Xinb1f.png I've been extremely starved of iron the whole game, and I've recently run out of oil. This means that I've had no choice b...

I set it up yesterday and today. It didn't take too long, it's a relatively simple concept.PharAway wrote:wow. that is rather ingenious. How long have you been using this setup?

My take on using steam as a backup. Works perfectly for me.
Instant response, instant cutoff, configurable run duration, no red/green wiring, easily scalable. Before starting, I'll say that this design is inspired by a post on the forums by User_Name. https://forums.factorio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6617 Okay so this screenshot has all the important...
