Green/red/copper wires having distinct shapes and colors from Copper cable was most likely a conscious decision to address bugreportes such as 116758 Unable to assign Copper Wire recipe in Assembly Machine 2, where players would confuse the two and be perplexed as to why it doesn't work.

Welcome to the forum, and thank you for the report. Indeed it's a known issue - see e.g. 117703 Thruster swapping Fuel and Oxidizer (mixing/fluid) . The space map "limits" are determined from the edges of the platform. The solution is then to send up couple of stacks of platform foundations and build a thin stretch (like 1x50 tiles) in each direction you intent to build the platform. That will allow you scroll and zoom in in the desire...

This seems related to 118557 Hand crafting Yumako processing recipe results in unexpected stack spoilage value in that the crafted item's timer starts ticking when the craft starts, not when it ends.
Interesting observation about the timer of extra products from productivity.

The ability to configure which wire an entity reads from/writes to its various capabilities is the topic of 117481 Please, PLEASE make circuit connection behavior configurable per wire and might be addressed in a future version 2.1.
