Re: Friday Facts #278 - The new quickbar
Someone on reddit suggested that a better implementation for the ghost cursor thing then having it off by default or activate when you research bots would be to require holding shift, same as when you place ghosts from a real item. If you attempted to place it without shift you'd just get the error ...

Re: Did no one else notice massive nerf of tank in 0.17?
I guess I can agree that the tank machine gun was a little too strong, but I think its other weapons are too weak. The cannon is slow as hell. And the flamethrower is just... I don't even know what it's for. Why doesn't it set things on fire like personal and turret flamethrowers do? It's downright ...

Re: Friday Facts #275 - 0.17 Science changes
A few random thoughts: I would be against adding pipes to green science. Thinking back to when I first started playing, it already felt like a significant difficulty increase over red science that its two ingredients were each made from multiple parts themselves. Adding a third ingredient seems unne...

Allow Drop command (Z) to insert into buildings
TL;DR When holding an item and hovering over a building, pressing Z could insert one item (if it fits). What ? Currently we have shortcuts for inserting half a stack (Ctrl+RMB) or a full stack (Ctrl+LMB), but inserting individual or few items requires opening the regular interface. Since there's al...

Re: feedback: train signals are hard
This is just a quick mockup of an idea I had regarding one and two-way tracks. Signals.jpg This would only appear when you hovered over a signal (so the highlights on both tracks wouldn't be visible at the same time, I just combined them in one image). Anyway, it would show which direction the signa...

Re: Buy direct, GoG, or Steam?
The only advantage of steam for Factorio is that *if* you play multiplayer, by the next version of Factorio (Dec?) It will be much easier to host games if you are on Steam. Don't see how it can be "much" easier when it's dead easy already. (I've heard some people have difficulties, for wh...

Re: Friday Facts #262 - Hello my name is: Compilatron
Well, the NPE *may* also feature some sort of limited freeplay (for demo users) so you might not have to leave if you dont want. You can live with Compilatron for as many hours as you wish. I just wanna say, I think adding a taste of Freeplay to the demo would be a great move. I came pretty close t...

Re: Friday Facts #261 - Performance + New player interaction
Just wanted to add my two cents regarding the tutorial. I think in general you're moving in the right direction by letting people discover more of it for themselves, because the choppiness of having all the tips pop-ups definitely cut into my enjoyment when I played the demo. But on the other hand, ...

Re: How come GOG.com is still on version 0.15?
They are "slow on updates", but that's normally like a day or two, not over a month. Seems more like the devs either neglected to send them the update, or chose to hold off for some reason. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't an oversight. Not sure what money has to do with it, it's only 1 ...

How come GOG.com is still on version 0.15?
Not a huge deal since people can key the serial key and then update through this site or the built-in updater, but since 0.16.36 was declared stable, shouldn't that version be the default version for new players?
Just wanted to make sure my fellow GOG users don't get forgotten.

Re: Something to replace the "steel axe" character slot
Since manual mining does become irrelevant fairly quick (though it should be noted that mining speed affects removing buildings too), here's an "out there" idea: The picks also serve as melee weapons should you be otherwise unarmed, so upgrades could take it more in that direction. This wo...

Re: Something Wrong with Train Path Finding
Regardless of the fact that OP has created a very strange setup, it's still an interesting question why the train does that. I did a quick test and passing through disabled train-stops still seem to have the same penalty, so I don't think that's it. For testing purposes, what would happen if you rem...

Re: Friday Facts #236 - Building a rollup
The only trouble is I feel like a person seeing that and knowing nothing about the game might not understand that Factorio is about building something like that. "Huh, looks like a game about managing a huge factory or something, that doesn't sound very fun." In my opinion the timelapse is...

If you're gonna deliver steam, why not use nuclear steam and a turbine? It has about three times the energy density.

Re: Friday Facts #226 - New mod portal & other news
Actually I did notice because the mod portal suddenly started working in my main browser, which is a badly outdated copy of Firefox. I'm sure compatibility with old browsers isn't high on your priorities, but none-the-less it's nice. Probably speaks well for the site in terms of general robustness a...
