Seeking feedback on Natural Gas mod design
Hi All, I've put together a working MVP for a mod that introduces natural gas and a few byproducts. Additionally, I've mapped out the full (current) design in the picture below. Looking for anyone and everyone's input on my "design document" and if it makes sense or has gaps. Design philos...

Re: Looking for input on a Coal Power Plant mod design and Steam Engines/Boilers
Haven't replied to this in weeks but read these replies earlier and appreciate them! I've put the coal processing plant on the backlog and instead focused on a natural gas power plant (quite different from above) as my first MVP. I've gone from design to actual implementation at this point. @Medu - ...

Re: Looking for input on a Coal Power Plant mod design and Steam Engines/Boilers
Do you mind that it is obsolete mid-late game? No, i'm glad as i either go solar when i plan to make a base to the limit of my computer, or nuclear when i'm after fast deployment. Do you disagree if it's ever obsolete? Love to hear your thoughts I think in vanilla and in most overhaul mod i played ...

Re: Looking for input on a Coal Power Plant mod design and Steam Engines/Boilers
I laugh internally when I see people talking about trying to be eco-friendly with the bugs, knowing full well that they're (essentially) carpet bombing the **** out of the bugs to make the space for the solar. Similar with the threads requesting features to the game so they can save a couple tiles ...

Re: Looking for input on a Coal Power Plant and Steam Engines/Boilers
I agree that the steam engine and boiler setup act like/emulate a coal fired power plant. Do you know how coal fired power plants in the real world work? Inside, the burning coal heats a boiler, the boiler heats water to steam, the steam drives a turbine, the turbine drives an electric generator. I...

Re: Looking for input on a Coal Power Plant mod design and Steam Engines/Boilers
Yeah Industrial Revolution is really cool but I'm looking more to do a coal-fired power plant as opposed to just using steam as a central theme. Didn't see any other power options in IR3 that follow what I'm referring to, but I could be wrong.

Re: Looking for input on a Coal Power Plant and Steam Engines/Boilers
Yeah that's part of the problem with my approach but also the part that made me arrive to the conclusion of how people view steam engines/boilers usefulness from mid-late game. I ultimately don't want to create an upgrade where people always go the coal power plant route over a large steam engine se...

Re: Looking for input on a Coal Power Plant and Steam Engines/Boilers
Yeah one of the mods that my group was willing to embark on was space exploration. We're using solid fuel for the burner turbines. Those things are badass.

Looking for input on a Coal Power Plant mod design and Steam Engines/Boilers
Hi All, While I love all the tremendous accomplishments that certain mods have made for the community (Angels, Bobs, Py, Seablock, and Space Exploration to name a few), I've found much more success incorporating smaller, standalone features into the game with my group of friends. This way we can pla...

Re: pY Alternative Energy - Discussion
Have been playing factorio since release and just started my first Py run with a friend using PyAE. I have to say...this is amazing. I absolutely love this. I tried angel's before and while I very much appreciate that mod, I couldn't get into it. With PyAE, I feel like it's slowly integrating me int...

Re: Themed Design for Molten Salt Facility (Cheese's Concentrated Solar)
UPDATED DESIGN: Scaled up and optimized the design to produce 371.2 MW of energy/power/steam storage. 12 steam storage tanks. 64 steam turbines. Dependent on the volume of solar panels you have for dusk/dawn (haven't determined the ratio yet). Blueprints: Left Side: 0eNqlncuOHMcRRX+F6JUNzBiV70ztvPTa...

Themed Design for Molten Salt Facility (Cheese's Concentrated Solar)
EDIT: Improved design in next reply. Really digging Cheese's concentrated solar tower mod and came up with the goal to offset all/nearly all of our accumulator needs during the night. My buddy and I are not currently using nuclear, and while this design is pretty basic I figured I'd share to at leas...

What do you think Petroleum Gas is?
I know some of you may not care about this, but it's something that I've always been curious about and I'd like to get people's input on the following: What do you think Petroleum Gas is technically supposed to be? I know it's a game, and I love it, but what is Petroleum Gas? I get that the point of...

Re: Hybrid Nuclear/Chemical, version 3 (Post 0.15.11)
Hi Aerternus, I like your design! I have a (stupid) question, though. You call these chemical boilers. How is this chemical? Are you not using just standard Boilers in conjunction with heat exchangers to provide a mix of steam temperature to your steam turbines? I love power optimization and would l...
