I would really like this feature also.

We can trigger an event when a key is pressed, so optionally triggering a different event when a key is released is surely not going to complicate the code or significantly reduce performance, is it?

There is a "creep collector" which can be researched and made: it looks like a spade. With this in your hand you can click on the creep to collect it.

My version is designed to be built with the middle part over a lake which is filled in with landfill, leaving two narrow trenches in the middle for the water pumps. After placing the blueprint, fill in the trench and add the last two pieces of heatpipe. This can be fully remote-built and is tileable...

So what do you guys do with all the sand in late game? Sand can be crushed to nothing in the crusher. This is a slow process, so you can speed it up by turning 10 sand into 6 quartz and then into 3 silicon which you can crush to nothing if you don't need it. It looks like your inserters have red or green wires: check the circuit conditions. If there is no circuit condition then the inserter will not operate.

As a workaround, you can use the fact that "!" appears before any letters or digits in the search order. If you name your passenger stations starting with "!" (eg "!Taxi Stand") then they will all appear before everything else in the station list.
