Yes it is true that the items built into walls would be susceptible to attack and that is where you would make the choice to do it or not. I think i may start a different suggestion to make an item like chain link fence that can block the player as an alternate to this idea. https://forums.factorio....

Player blocking fence item

This is a spinoff idea from my other post about integrating items into walls. https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=36992 Instead of that, maybe a chain link fence could be implemented. This would block the player from certain areas of your base or act as a beginner rudimentary defense...

Also I agree there should be a key needed to force place. Also I agree it should ignore the player, maybe you can use the force place for player ignore.
