Re: Any way to switch "Request from buffer chests" option for all Requester Chests in an area?
I'd like to start recycling plates and other mats that have lying around in storage chests Fair enough, that's a reasonable thing to want to do ... and in order to do that, I'd like to replace the passive providers that hold the plates that the machines in the HUB request with buffer chests, so I c...

Re: Quality level run-off poll
Good idea. I've added a post on the other thread pointing to this one. I don't think there is any particular need to 'close' the old one though.FuryoftheStars wrote: βThu Mar 21, 2024 10:41 amHey, should you maybe update the other poll pointing people here? (Can polls be "closed"?)

Re: Quality level names poll
Those still posting on this thread might like to be pointed at the run-off poll at
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=111779
which has the set of top choices from this poll as one option.
(Thanks to FuryOfTheStars for reminding me to make this public service announcement.)

Re: Yellow Science - Raw Requirements
I'm not sure why you would first calculate the crude oil requirements from the heavy oil, then calculate the Petro from that crude oil and then find the crude oil for the remaining balance at the .975 ratio. Because the quantity of crude required depends on the limiting component. Usually (almost a...

Re: Quality level run-off poll
I would have gone B, A, S, SS, SSS for the letter grades. Why not go the whole snake hog, and suggest S, SS, SSS, SSSS, SSSSS? (Which we could then abbreviate S1, S2, S3, S4, S5.) Seriously though, that's why there is an 'e.g.' in the letter grade option. If letter grades turn out to be the preferr...

Quality level run-off poll
The 'primary' poll to find the popular choices for quality level names seems to have stabilised (after a late run from 'Basic' to overtake 'Normal' for the first level). So here is a run-off.

Re: Can trains ever crash into gates across tracks?
There will be no changes around this logic in 1.1.x because it would go in the way of expansion development causing a lot of merge conflicts that i am not willing to resolve. That's fair enough, but it would be nice to see it fixed at some point in 2.x. I would have thought it could be done with a ...

Re: Can trains ever crash into gates across tracks?
1/ Train could open all gates in the braking distance on all possible branches. That would be really expensive at runtime and especially expensive when trains would be modded with extremally high speed and dense junctions. Lets say this solution is unreasonable. Fair enough. 2/ Lets think what woul...

Re: Can trains ever crash into gates across tracks?
They can crash into gates. Gates need to lower to stop colliding and trains only open gates on their path. If a train recalculates path while moving fast it may happen that a new path goes through a closed gate and the gate may not open quickly enough and the train will collide with it. I'd call th...

Re: Quality level names poll
I notice previous postes use Q1-Q5, that's what i suggested, it's not in the poll. My "valuable" opinion cannot be expressed in this poll ! That's because this poll is about the preferred names 8-) . Once those are settled, I'll post a run-off poll in which 'just numbers' will be one of t...

Re: Quality level names poll
Let's please not make Q1 "basic", that feels a bit like you're "supposed" to use higher quality tiers, when quality is supposed to be optional. That would be a reasonable argument against 'Crude' or Rough', but I don't think 'Basic' has quite that level of negative connotation.

Re: Quality level names poll
There seems to have been a flurry of recent interest in this, prompted by the Fulgora FFFs. I was on the point of 'calling it' and putting up a run-off poll, but it seems that the level 1 names are still in flux. 'Improved' and 'Exceptional' have majority support for 2 and 4, while 'Superior' and 'P...

Re: Friday Facts #395 - Generic interrupts and Train stop priority
In your post, you've skipped over an important question: which kind of setup actually needs the old skipping behavior? If you have a use case, one that isn't solvable via queue limits or interrupts, please do tell. I currently use skipping for my ammunition supply train, in a way that certainly can...

Probably not quite what you are after, but once everything except the power poles and roboports is gone, you could finish with a quick visit from either your personal conbots or a spider.

Re: Friday Facts #389 - Train control improvements
This is all good stuff, and I look forward to having it in 2.0. But no sign of a fix to my single biggest QoL gripe with the current version, namely the inability to configure a sensible default behaviour for temporary train stops.

Re: Article Series About Smooth Factory Function and Factory Optimization Techniques
One thing you don't mention is the value of resources: how much is, say, one unit of iron ore worth in the ground? You have to mine it, there is no other way to get iron. True. Ore in the ground is worth nothing. False. A depleted patch of ore, that can no longer be mined, is worth nothing. A non-d...
