TinyStart and FarReach, very popular one, don't work and won't save- at least not on the Mac Far Reach seems to work just fine for me though I use custom settings. I only want to interact with things at a distance and want to require bots to actually build things. And that works without any issues ...

I don't agree though, it was implied that basically anything that worked on 0.18 should run, Yes you did, and no you are wrong. Read what posila actually said, posila didn't imply anything you ascribe to him. 1.0 is no different from a modders perspective than if those new features would have been ...

Let me guess: You thought the mods didn't load because you didn't get the TinyStart items upon starting the new game? The mod got broken by the new freeplay intro cutscene, just like most other quickstart mods. This needs to be fixed by the mod author (it has already been reported on the mod page)....

Mods don't load anymore on Mac

Loading a game with mods is not possible on the MacBook Pro running Curren OS and Factorio 1.0
- the mods are shown when loading but are not installed and not saved

I like the older miner with its distinctive 3 D look a lot more then the flat faced newcomer - honestly
And I never had a problem with the size neither have I read any user complaint regarding the old nicer version
