Re: How do YOU use mining drills?
As far as I understand the game mechanics, a miner randomly chooses one tile for one mining pass, randomly from all available tiles in its area. Since for overlapping areas there are multiple miners, tiles in overlapping areas are chosen more often, so these deplete first. If I speak of output in my...

Re: How do YOU use mining drills?
Whether you use a higher or lower miner density depends on when you want to create new mining outposts. Your factory has some fixed ore demand. It doesn't care about miner density, it just wants to consume X ore per second. So if you build a mine with low miner density, the mine output is somewhat l...

Re: How do YOU use mining drills?
I don't pull or push anything. Trains just flow between loading and unloading stations according to their schedule and free slots. The ore unloading stations have a static train limit of 4, so there is enough for a longer distance from the ore loading stations, and the ore loading stations have a st...

Re: How do YOU use mining drills?
[resource patch size 60x60 / 40x40] Are those sizes accurate with patch size turned up to full? They are slightly larger. They have a few small branches or extensions extending the 60x60 area, but the general ore area is still within 60x60. If you want to know it exactly, create a map in creative m...

Re: How do YOU use mining drills?
There's also ways with combinator to detect when the belts are empty, to make the last train that is not filled to leave the place and the outpost closing itself. Provided it's not due to power shortage it can help keeping trains running in larges bases with many non-rich outpost that deplete often...

Re: How do YOU use mining drills?
...One miner is wired and reads the amount of resources of the whole field, so a programmable speaker will raise an alert if the resource field has 0 resources and therefore is depleted, so I can deconstruct it. How good does that work for you? I tried it but if the connected miner has depleted it'...

Re: Quality level names poll
It seems evident to me that the individual proposing this idea may lack an understanding of game design, UX, or modding intricacies. They may not yet realize that the extension points for customizing those names already exist in the form of mods with translations, for example. That's all correct, e...

Re: How do YOU use mining drills?
And it is not really worth either to mine ahead-of-time into chests to justify going overboard on the miners. Because ore in the ground is more worth it while it is still in the ground because of later Mining Productivity research giving you more in return It seems so, but the real worth of ore in ...

Re: How do YOU use mining drills?
Resource patches more far away are 60x60 tiles at maximum, so I created a blueprint in map editor that covers this area in a manner similar to your screenshot (miners next to each other, 1 tile space for power poles). At one end, there is a station in the blueprint including a waiting area for 2 add...

Re: Lefty keyboard bindings
There seems nobody left-handed who reads this thread, unfortunately. I carefully remapped my keyboard to use ESDF instead of WASD, so I have some general idea how to approach keyboard reassignment, even although I'm only right-handed. A left-handed uses the mouse with his left hand, isn't he? So you...

Re: Quality level names poll
Look, the joke about developers giving us a selection menu to configure the names was already made on page 2. It is a funny joke because it is a hilariously silly idea, but it is best told at most once. I am serious with this suggestion. It makes sense, because player's opinion vary and there is no...

Re: Blue Science Crafting Time
I don't support changing the crafting time for the science packs. I remember very well it was the science packs that actually made me think about ratios on a larger scale and about building multiple assembling machines according to ratio to get the same output for different items. How to normalize a...

Re: A different way to side load
As far as I see it, the examples simply show regular sideloading. Rather, the examples visualize (and prove) how splitters work with two fully compressed inputs. However, this perfect alternating between left and right input stops working as soon as gaps appear. The topic name suggests some not wide...

Re: Remove conveniences in favour of circuit networks
I admit, every time I see the words of this topic title ("remove convenience ...") reappearing in the active topics I'm offended. Really. Computers were made to make things easier for the people. They're the manifestation of convenience. And now there is someone who asks to remove existing...

Re: Expansion hype thread - Any updates on when/if there will be an expansion?
Enemies weren't mentioned at all yet. In no fff. Environmental dangers and hazards were mentioned, for example some routes to some planet require turrets to destroy asteroids hitting the space platform. But living/intelligent enemies were not discussed yet. I assume this the topic for some late fff,...

Re: Quality level names poll
How about a tier name configuration section in the settings? A configurable list of 5 words shouldn't be too difficult to add. For multiplayer, the list from the server is used to avoid desyncs.

And also not like the scrap recipe has unpredictable behavior. The ratio is fixed. There is nothing random about it. Because of the way it has also to work with Multiplayer, by it is an algorithm with a replicate-able pattern Definitely. The only thing that can go wrong is if the random number gene...

not like you are throwing real life gold bars into the trash. But it feels like it! :o You're right of course. Re: Request Chest Control
There is no simple solution, because you can either read the content of a requester chest or set the requests, but not both. One problem is that you never know how many items are really in that chest, or you cannot adjust the requests. You can use two chests, one requester chest and one regular, and...
