Re: Outpost Buffer Chest Balancing
I just used splitters to even it all out so here is the example of what I did. This isn't balancing, the middle two chests will receive 1/4 of the feed each, the other four chests will receive 1/8 each. I think if you took this design , doubled and inverted it you will have a balanced system. EDIT:...

Re: Outpost Buffer Chest Balancing
so those are some nice, very complex setups....but this is how I solved the issue in a much more simplistic manner LOL. I just used splitters to even it all out so here is the example of what I did. I have a faster belt going from the miners before it hits the spread to the train car. I have bobs mo...

Re: Is RSO still needed?
I played a game recently with resources as spread out as it gets and almost everything was within pretty close reach... Was still better to use trains but they didn't have to go far until the first outposts ran out of ore. "Almost" everything Weirdly, the closest oil field spawned pretty ...

Re: The personal laser defense
Capsules, who uses them? Capsules are NASTY. Poison capsules are basically a low tech super grenade, and bots will wipe the map at high levels. Don't bash on them just because they're tricky to initially build. its not the building part, its the deploying/using them part that is annoying while driv...

Re: The personal laser defense
Adding support abilities to armor is good, but the implementation of them was BAD, oh so very BAD. Capsules, who uses them? There an item you have to MANUALLY deploy. In a game about automation....its kinda backwards when it comes to combat. Having a module on your armor that can auto deploy Slow or...

Re: Trains vs conveyors?
The major advantage for trains is there speed. Even carrying just one wagon, the train will be able to go long distances far faster then a belt could at far cheaper of a cost in resources. Trains are a more feast/famine system for your base, as when one shows up your network is SWAMPED with more ore...

Re: Outpost Buffer Chest Balancing
you can click on the red X while looking into a box, and "block out" parts of the chest you don't want to have them load into. Aka instead of having the chest fill till its full, you can tell it to load up only one row before the game thinks its "full" and the inserter stops, thu...

Re: Is blue belt worth the cost in resources?
When you start making something prevalent in high quantities (pipes, belts, solar panels, etc) it's a lot easier to have a single blue belt going in than it is to have two red belts or three yellow belts. Because when a part of your factory starts using more than a single red belt of resources you ...

Re: Supression of the size shift of electric furnaces
Did no one learn how to setup there base to take into account the later upgrade of the electric Furnace? This pic here shows how to setup a 2x2 furnace and the 3x3 electric without having to completely remove the entire system. Do note that the belt feeding the main drag is whats removed and replace...

Re: Why do lvl 1 armor batteries take 2 slots?
Hmmm I forgot about solar panels (never use those either lol). I still don't see it being a big deal, you need multiple solar panels and batteries if you go that route. This would just mean you can have one more solar panel and one less battery. I think before addressing these sort of options we sh...

Re: Why are electric furnaces so expensive?
As the thread title says. I started a new game (my first) and I see I start with coal- and electric-powered versions of inserters and drills and electrical generators already available for construction, and yet and electrical furnace is buried in the tech tree and requires several hundred green sci...

Re: Train is too vulnerable versus green alien(Big problem!)
umm you guys have...some bug problems there in those pics....just wow, and I know in vanilla the tank cannot handle those bases. A Heavy Tanks mod brings a nice super heavy tank with a cannon that will one shot a base, but be warned, it has a long reload time and can have only ONE round per a stack ...

Re: Tech tree Flaw?
The common answer is to craft one oil refinery by hand, just like you needed to craft thinks in the beginning by hand. This, the cheevo you are after is Finnish the game with less then 111 items crafted by hand, and craft more by assembler then by hand. Building the two axes and the one lab, 10 bot...

Re: Have Some Questions Before I Buy.
Best part about this game, is when your base reaches that point where you fix one thing and it breaks another, then you fix that only to find you need to adjust something somewhere else, and so on and so forth. Its like putting out a bunch of little fires all at once, and that is not to mention the ...

Re: Is blue belt worth the cost in resources?
Blues (Teal and Purple are higher on modded games with bob's for example) are worth every bit if you have long distances to travel with the belt. It gets whatever is needed from point A to point B faster, and since they have a higher throughput then all other belts, its better for allowing more plat...

Re: Restricting inserters to one item
I believe Bob's mod does split the research to being two different ones rather then one like in vanilla. He also adds some faster inserters too (along with stack and filter variants, even stack filter ones too).
Bob's Logistics is the mod I believe.

Re: Friday facts #157 - We are able to eat paper, but we don't do it
More multi player performance -> More single player performance -> Bigger Factorios -> Same performance needs. CPU Upgrade: +50% Performance Game-Optimizations: +50% Performance => +125% Total Performance Gain => Factory can be more than twice as big. I know in reality it isn't that much, but :ugee...

Re: Friday facts #157 - We are able to eat paper, but we don't do it
I think you should optimize, but in the right areas. If more than say 50 people were playing a game it would go by really fast. The factory would get so massive it would lag and it wouldn't be a fun experience IMO. So i think that 300+ people in Factorio is just stupid and maybe a fun experiment. F...

Re: Go home Factorio, you're drunk
This just really hammers home the need to be able to make bridges in vanilla. The Roadworks mod is nice, but you cant place belts or tracks on them, and landfill is cool because you can, but its not a bridge. 5Dim has some neat tracks that are able to be placed on water, and even electric trains (wi...
