Re: Factorio crashing, taking Linux Mint desktop with it
After sort of hosing my install with Timeshift, I finally got around to playing it with all of the current Linux Mint updates except for the amd64-microcode update. So far, so good. No crashing in about 3 hours of playing. Will keep testing. Thanks for the suggestion!

Factorio crashing, taking Linux Mint desktop with it
I'm running into a new problem where Factorio is crashing and taking my entire desktop with it (Linux MInt). Attached is a log file and my current game (no mods). What happens: Starting about a week ago, I'll be playing Factorio for a random amount of time (seconds, minutes), and Factorio freezes. M...

Re: Mining ore station
I have a pretty big base, so building anything from scratch takes a good 20-30 minutes. So, I build more ore miners when I'm waiting for stuff to be built. I generally don't know what the next bottleneck will be after I fix the current one, so building ore stations (and nuclear power) fits into the ...

Re: Uninstalled mod - Items still in recipes
As far as I know, there's no guarantee that removing or adding a mod in-game is going to work out 100% correctly. I believe your options are to start a new game without that mod, or finish your current game with that mod installed. [/I could be wrong]

Re: Rebuild or Restart?
Deconstructing is super super easy, so I really like to build bigger nearby (almost always, further out), and I take the center apart chunk by chunk. There's really no reason to restart unless you want to. You don't have to do anything unless you want to in this game, in fact.

I hate to say it, but this is my bottleneck now. I would love it if I could put a lot of my bots to work!

Re: This game is a masterpiece, but I'm honestly really disappointed...
I don't really think about this as a combat game, so I don't know why you'd play multiplayer combat. If you play with no mods, at some point relatively soon after you launch a rocket, the biters aren't even a consideration any more. Are you just doing "combat" with some mod that turns Fact...

The game just keeps growing...
I'm amazed at how this game keeps growing with me. At every level, there are new challenges to be had. I'm at what most people would call a "mega base" (no mods), and I was worried that the game would become boring soon. But no, even now, there are new problems to solve, new engineering ch...

Re: Built computer with highest CPU cache available and game still stutters
I have the grid already built (rails, power, roboports, radar, etc.). This problem happens when I'm plunking down individual factory units as I need them. My megabase is a huge grid, and when I hit say, a bottleneck for Fe Plates, then I'll plunk down a few more Fe Plate factories. I'm not sure how ...

Re: Built computer with highest CPU cache available and game still stutters
... and now the factory is bigger, and this performance issue is causing a bigger problem. When I ask my bots to build something, this issue occurs while they're building. Since I have a massive bot network, things take a very long time to build after I plop down the plans. A factory unit generally ...

Re: Built computer with highest CPU cache available and game still stutters
Another update: I've since made my factory much bigger, and I can confirm that this issue happens whenever there are more than a few "No Path" trains. Performance is fine when there aren't any "No Path" trains. It's not really a huge deal, as far as I'm concerned. Apparently, I d...

Re: Built computer with highest CPU cache available and game still stutters
When I spent a little more time with this game to remind myself what I was doing at the time... Yes, aka13 was right... I had just slapped down a few blueprints and my bots are building tracks and stations for me. Some of the no path trains were due to stuff being built, but most of them are regular...

Re: Built computer with highest CPU cache available and game still stutters
I didn't remember where I was when I stopped playing, honestly. I had to stop playing when this started happening about 3-4 months ago, and I only fired it up again when I got my new computer the other day. I could fix the trains, but A. It's going to be extremely tedious (and not fun) with the game...

Built computer with highest CPU cache available and game still stutters
I was running a generic Intel i7 something on a laptop with 64 GB RAM. Single player. No mods. Game started stuttering. Built a brand new computer with AMD 7800X3D, 64 GB RAM, high end video card, blah blah. Game still stutters. Log file attached. Save game attached. Screenshots attached. This map i...

Re: Best CPU available: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D?
So it looks like the answer is , "Yes, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D should be the best CPU available today for Factorio in most situations."
Thank you fellow People of the Internet!

The 7800X3D releases in two weeks! Where does somebody buy a CPU (and a motherboard to go with it)? I've never had to build a computer before, but..... the Factory Must Grow!!!

BlueTemplar: That didn't help me, unfortunately.
mmmPI: That mod looks crazy. I'm scared to install it!
I think the best thing to do in this situation is just to get a new CPU.
