Empty hand
I'm playing the latest version of the game. I think its .16 I'm having trouble sometimes with emptying my hand. The Q key doesn't work and the game won't put the item back into inventory so that I can click on a factory or whatever. I tried remapping this function to the X key, but had the same prob...

fix fussy pumps and add a planning aid
First off I have just come back to Factorio. I stopped playing for a year or more. This should explain anything idiotic I might say. Why are pumps so fussy about where you park your train? The factories play nice. An inserter can put things into a factory when it just touches the edge, but a pump de...

I thought the splitters were supposed to be able to do this
Version .1617 I thought the splitters would be able to take a belt with different products on either side of the belt and output them with all the iron plate on one side for example and all the gears on the other side. I've tried fiddling with the GUI that pops up, but none of the settings I've trie...

Show belt history
One thing this game needs is labels or pop ups that show what goes on the belt. Belts can carry anything but they're usually intended for certain things. If you have a really long belt and it runs out of supplies it can be tricky to figure out what goes on it. Lets say late in the game I run across ...

Something I noticed about robots
I hooked up 8 roboports in a linked column. The north end had four requester chests asking for iron plate and it had a number of active provider chests with lots of iron plate. At the south end I put a storage chest. Robots started drifting down to the south end storage chest and when there was a fe...

Re: What kind of chests do I use at a train station?
So does each train stop have a place to unload trains and another place to load trains and both places have different chests?

What kind of chests do I use at a train station?
At first I put down steel chests but I have logistic robots so I put down storage chests. That worked until the robots started bringing surplus up from the factory below and filling all my train unloading area with all kinds of junk. So what kind of chest should I have next to the cargo cars?

Re: I need interesting, fun things to do
So far I managed to try the destructors after making a thousand of them. They're fun. They work well with the slowdown capsules.

At once, Commander.
I also need to do something with trains. I need to get one to go back and forth and then try more complicated things.

I need interesting, fun things to do
I've researched everything and I'm in peaceful mode. I have quite a few modules of all kinds. I kill big infestations with laser turrets. I tried messin with flame thrower turrets but they're a bit of a chore as you have to supply with fluids which aren't moved easily. I've burned some forests with ...

Re: How to make logistic robots evenly grab from chests?
I had a problem where I was making lots of conveyor but almost no inserters because all the gears were going into the conveyor box. Another problem is that even though the robots can carry four items, they often pick up just one at a time and fly back and forth wasting time. Is there no way to tell ...

Keep an area free of biters
If I want to keep a clean area free of biters, what is the smallest, cheapest thing I can leave behind to prevent biters from moving in? Would they avoid setting up nests if I drop a couple of iron ingots or do I have to put down an assembler or an inserter? Does it have to be connected to power? Th...

Steam powered landship
I'd like to build a gigantic, steam powered landship bristling with turrets and flame throwers and capable of mowing through heavy infestations with only occasional trips back to the base required. It would be able to lay down powerlines in its wake so it is always hooked up to power but you could c...

Re: Why does the factorio guy have to collide with machinery?
Collision box makes sense when you're looking at the guy but I'm working some inches away from the guy where my hand is and the guy is tiny. Its easy to lose him. Why do I always have to worry about him getting stuck up against something? It takes my eye and mind off what I'm trying to do.

Why does the factorio guy have to collide with machinery?
Why can't the Factorio guy run through assemblers, light poles, trees and stuff like that the way he can run through inserters? When you are working in a crowded factory setting he's always getting hung up on stuff. Does it really add something to the game that you have to take your eye off the mach...

Re: Automated Vehicles
How about a road train with space for mounting turrets and inserter on top? Aussie road trains have one tractor pulling as many as six trailers. Could use the tank to pull the same load instead of the usual tractor cab. Also, I'd like to be able to surround myself with rolling robotic flame thrower ...

Adele
New ingredients to build. Pie, fish and chips, nutella. Once these are added together with explosives and iron you can build Adele. You throw Adele near the biters and she totters off towards the biters while singing "Someone like you" and throwing mines in all directions. If she is set up...

Record and replay with slow motion and fast motion
I play a lot of single player games and I like to record and watch some of those games.
Watching the slaughter of biters with laser turrets would be fun in factorio. Especially in slow motion with cameras that can be placed and maybe the ability to lay out a roaming camera.

Re: What is your favorite part of the game, and why?
In peaceful mode I like to surround a massive biter infestation with 60 leveled laser turrets and then connect that last wire. There's a hail of laser shots and then I run in to pick up artifacts and finish off stragglers. If I could I'd do this with hundreds of turrets and then set up roving camera...
