Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
Which is why I find this whole thread pointless. You want more time between trains. So one or 2 blue belts per wagon at maximum and that is a simple problem. Need more belts, use more wagons. Or more train stops. Sounds kinda like you're arguing for massive steel furnace arrays when OP wants a slic...

Re: Challenge: Generic max-speed train unload
I like the bot unloading example but, by unloading from only one side, there is no time left to replace the train. As is, you would have the output belts alternating between compressed and empty, which defeats the purpose of a compressed belt design.. they need to be sustainably compressed. I think ...

Re: Stations with same name: Avoiding orphan trains
This thread really caught my eye because I've noticed orphan trains in much the same setups as described but never dealt with them in an adequate way. Apologies for the atrocious rails, as I lack good rail blueprints at the moment and got super lazy with a randomly downloaded book, but I have put a ...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)
Oh, and my vote is in for removal of beacons. Removing beacons would make me cry. I wish they fit a little nicer in some cases, but they're otherwise awesome for scaling up a base. Some of the most interesting (to me) belt and circuit designs are done with beacons -- see sig for some simple ones fr...

Re: Friday Facts #225 - Bots versus belts (part 2)
I do tend to switch to bots for many things, but I don't think I'd miss bots too much if they were removed except in a few cases. Transporting fuel to train stations. I like having requester chests feed fuel to the trains. Bringing fuel belts alongside train stations, manually stocking them, or havi...

Re: Baffled - please provide reasons
They're cheap and provide easy tiling without wasting space.. drop several blueprints and walk away. Time not spent babysitting their construction can be spent elsewhere. Also, the roboport allows your bots to fly over your solar grid without getting stuck once your base spreads out. If you leave a ...

Re: Charge the character from the base
I don't think recharging/swapping batteries is really necessary, but then I usually don't bother too much with the earliest of modular armours. I usually run around with two fusion reactors, six exoskeletons, three shields, nightvision, and two batteries (that serve as a power indicator and a shield...

Re: Any ideas for powerswitch mechanism?
I recently started playing with circuits but I haven't gotten back to finishing/cleaning up the design and it's pretty messy at the moment. I have trains bring in ore which unloads to (input) chests and from those onto belts, the belts run through the smelters and into (output) chests, which are the...

The underground belt lengthening is awesome! Thank you.
I do agree with others that 5/8/11 makes more sense given how many people design buses currently, but I don't think it's a big deal.

Re: Need help getting Solaris achievement
You have to have no steam engine production whatsoever (not just no steam engines currently) within a full hour of solar panels producing 10GJ, iirc. And I mean a full hour even if your panels can hit the number in a minute. Open your electric network window and select the 1h time frame to verify.

Re: New blueprint website, featuring search and automatic images
Looks like someone created a lot of duplicate entries that haven't been cleaned up in quite some time.. a check to prevent such from happening in the future would be a good plan. I think this also serves as a strong example of why requiring user accounts are important, as any abuse by a user and you...

Re: Start a new base now?
Like most people, I'm excited for 0.15. Especially the liquid train carriages. My question is, should I start a new map now and start to get things underway ready for the update, or just wait until 0.15 and start new then? What's your thoughts? :-) This update will change a lot of things so, althou...

Re: New blueprint website, featuring search and automatic images
Looks like you're off to a good start.. I put up a few for you. Just some suggestions: - Accept an image upload, store it locally, and only show the auto-generated image if one isn't submitted until you can generate images like those on in-game blueprints. - Having to save edit links is a bit weird ...

Re: Are trains really more efficient than belts?
I don't understand why people complicate their rails with larger trains and/or loops. 1-2-1 seems to be big enough and allows for tighter timings at simpler junctions. I like that my trains and rail networks look and behave like real trains and not like toy trains. Factorio is not as good as I woul...

Re: Are trains really more efficient than belts?
Short answer: Trains win and it's not a fair contest. For long distances and bandwidth, trains vs. belts are like cheetahs vs drunken sloths. You would need a ridiculous amount of blue belts, which are very costly especially over long distance. Long distance belts are also hard on your computer's pe...
