False result. I failed to account for the time it takes the pump arm to be extended and connect into the fluid wagon.

Re: filter combinator
Using "each+0" "output count" "iron" on an arithmetic, would add 0 to all signal and only ouput the iron one( unchanged). This doesn't actually work like you think. When you set an arithmetic with EACH as one of it's operands, but set it's output to something else than...

Yeah, land mines are kinda ridiculous powerful for how cheap they are. Can just spam them everywhere they kill all biters (at least before big ones).blazespinnaker wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 1:18 amI got to mines on DW marathon and called it quits as I was getting bored. Once I am at mines the biters become an afterthought.

Re: Trains still route to closest station (with limits set)
IMO, the train limit setting is not meant to solve all train problems. You still need those solutions that existed before (train path penalties, train parking areas, etc) to complement train limits.

Re: Factorio is two games: pre and post robots.
Yep, burners are not ideal for this scenario, though they work in others. Their production per sq m is better than miners I believe. Plus they don’t need copper. I gave burner miners a second chance I did find them a bit useful during the first few hours of a pacifist deathworld run with desert bio...

Yep, burners are not ideal for this scenario, though they work in others. Their production per sq m is better than miners I believe. Plus they don’t need copper. The thing that's really annoying about burners is they produce almost double the amount of pollution and consume 3x as much coal to run. ...

Re: Factorio is two games: pre and post robots.
Hmm, most I could get was 5K raw ore + 800 (used for miners, power) and that was leaving it until they overwhelmed my miners. Usually much more cautious than that. Still, 5K is enough to get to close to oil/mines. a couple more pulls and you should be good to go. Firstly, I'm talking about electric...

Re: Factorio is two games: pre and post robots.
As a follow up on the last strategy, I would use miners to grab the ore, and then smelt it in some other place. That way you can minimize the pollution cloud you build up while getting the ore and can max that resource grab out as much as possible. Watching the pollution production tab gives a good...

Re: Chain signals are overused
The problem with the second option is that learning to use signals in regular play is extremely punishing if you mess up. Leading to trains with cargo being destroyed if you mess up a single little thing. 99% of the train problems people complain about are some form of deadlock, not collissions. Th...

Re: Anyone use barrels?
I use barrels for light oil to be flown into remote walls for the flamethrowers. I try to have a factory to make barrels and have the inserter stop when it reaches a certain limit, but I end up with far more barrels then what there should be. Why is that, are the barrels not counted when in flight?...

At the moment there's just one thing in Factorio that can come close to using 100% of the CPU: pipes (1.3 million of them to be exact)

Re: Anyone use barrels?
I am a bit curious about the numbers, 1.8 seconds seems right for fluid wagons (tested ingame with a wagon and 3 pumps, emptied in 106 ticks) about the edit, how do you bypass the attachment delay (which I forgot about in my earlier post)? Ah that explains why I got lower numbers, I didn't include ...

Re: Anyone use barrels?
Maybe on some speedruns they could be used to move sulfuric acid without having to spend time on pipe infra. Maybe. Its a stretch. I was just looking into that. An Any% speedrun requires something like 2200 processing units to be made, which translates into 11000 sulfuric acid, which can be carried...

Re: Anyone use barrels?
yes when pushing really high SPM with modded belts and high item rate, you might be better off with barreling for plastic production since pipe logistics are a pain, comparatively. Anyone have a good handle on the UPS efficiency here? Very interested. Pipes should be more UPS efficient then having ...

Re: Anyone use barrels?
oh right you can unload with more inserters than you can pumps, though i'm not sure that the throughput is better with vanilla stack inserters compared to vanilla fluid pump, probably not. 12x stack inserters with at least 10x stack size = Unload a cargo wagon full of barrels in 1.3 seconds = 20000...
