Re: Can't connect to my dedicated server
1. Yes, and yes. 2. Also yes. 3. Yes again. I like these questions, easy to answer! Anyway, to help troubleshoot you problem, try these items: Are you trying to run the client and server on the same computer? Factorio doesn't play nice this way. Host on a separate computer, or a VM works surprisingl...

It's also worth checking in the unofficial updated mods section: https://forums.factorio.com/viewforum.php?f=120 Checking the last couple pages of the original mod thread might turn up a successor mod, or someone who has already updated it. If you post the mod's name, and a link to where you found i...

Strongly suggest buying a mouse. Games like factorio work so much better that way.

Re: Slow map download on special Dev build
It would be a great help if we could get them something reproducible. The hit and miss nature drives me crazy, and would be near impossible to debug. The connection itself doesn't seem to make a difference. Last night I played with a coworker. He was hosting on his laptop (in a vm!), playing on his ...

Okay so this screenshot has all the important parts visible. Ignore the roboports, pump jacks, and turrets. http://i.imgur.com/KXp0EIp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/KXp0EIp.jpg I'll go through it according to the numbers in the picture: I think this is wrong picture. I mostly see a lake, no numbers... Try...

Re: Slow map download on special Dev build
Been trying to troubleshoot a slow map download issue as well. Does yours start downloading fast, then slow down to a crawl?
A recent multiplayer game with a friend does this. Starts dl at >1mb, drops slowly all the way to ~35kb. It's only a 4mb map at this point.

Re: Impossible to play online
I strongly advise testing your port forwarding using a tool like http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ I'm under the impression that only the person hosting needs port forwarding. Others just need to make sure their firewall is set correctly. If you are still having problems, or are unable t...

Re: What are your thoughts on death in single player?
If you want respawn in single player, you can just play in multiplayer by yourself as well. I'm not sure the respawn really changes anything about singleplayer. You can always reload an autosave. But for consistency, maybe it should be the same as multiplayer. Is there any other way to see game stat...

Re: Linux dedicated server connection issue
It's worth a try to double check your VPS's port using a tool like http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ Then you can tell for sure if it's reachable via the internet. I know the VPS our city rents is behind a hardware firewall of some sort, plus the OS's firewalling. To open any non-standar...

If you have a widescreen monitor, you might be better off turning it 90 degrees, to get a better view up/down vs left/right. I do this for coding sometimes.

Re: Friday Facts #124 - Steam Status I
You can buy it right now, and you'll get a steam key to add it to your steam account if you wish. Threatening to pirate the game because you want to buy it only once it's on Steam, and only for 15 won't do any good. Just facepalm... If I would be able to buy it in web site I would done it by now. W...

Re: Factorio Bandwidth Usage
I had a look at a game when playing, seems like well under 100kbps. If he has a higher monthly cap (or no cap) on satellite, you should give it a try. In my experience factorio handles high latency quite well. Just keep cranking up the latency till it runs smooth. Then you decide if the input lag is...

Re: [MOD 0.12.1] Displaying range of turrets [v1.1.1]
Hi, I love your mod concept, but I wasn't thrilled with the activation mechanism, so I've been trying different methods. I'm pretty happy with my mods to your mod, but I'll often get some client lag when it renders or un-renders a turret's range (It's creating/destroying ~100 entities per turret , ...

Re: Location of download for semi-old Factorio versions?
They are experimental versions, the devs just happen to be nice enough to let us play them. They have no obligation to support old experimental versions. The mods are generally simple to update, even though the game is still a BETA version that is expected to break mods. Eventually the mod API will ...

Re: inserters are confused when item to smelt is fuel
Another option would be to add a 'processing' stage between the raw wood and charcoal. If you use an assembler to chop up the raw wood into say, 'wood pellets' then you can smelt the pellets into charcoal. Just make sure your wood pellets don't have a fuel value. edit: Just had another neat idea abo...
