Re: New to circuit networks and I have a question
RS-latch You need 2 combinators set to "A is not 0". Wire the output of each to the input of the other. Add another 2 combinators to generate an "1" signal on A to set and reset the latch. In your case connect the input of these two combinators to the box. One combinator does out...

Re: Version 0.17.36
1.0 is not a condition, it's a decision.
Using it as a tool to generate sales seems to be perfectly OK for me.
For me as a player, I want a larger player base and a happy team of developpers. If it helps for these goals to call a version 1.0 -- go for it!

Re: Simple Questions and Short Answers
How do you mine ore under roboport ? There's no way, right ? There will be (at least) 4 tiles un-mined ore from laying driller as tight as possibly can, right ? Correct! Same is true for beacons (only 1 tile). If you have bots, use them to move the whole setup by 2 tiles when there is only ore unde...

Strange Train Behaviour
Hi folks! Could you please have a look at my save game. I implemented a mechanism at the smelter that the trains for 95 ticks and then leave. It works perfectly except for one (the first) Iron stations. This is where my character stands in the save. Am I not seeing something??? Or is this a bug? htt...

If you go for 4 hours with a nuclear train in one direction you will get to the end of the world.
I think this qualifies as a "big distance in Factorio".

Re: Comprehensive power management
(..) And how will you know to build new reactors before you max them out if you don't measure the time between when you need to fuel them? For this the control loop doesn't have to be very reactive. I had setups with huge steam tanks and a trigger at 5% steam that would then burn through 10 or more...

Re: Comprehensive power management
I'm mining U ore at 3 k/min and I'm using 24 fuel cells/min and 5.6 nuclear fuel/min (for trains).
So, yes, I have plenty.
However, atm my reactor setup is 2x52 reactors (15.5 GW) that is pretty close to ideal and yes, I'm using a control loop to not waste fuel.

Re: Comprehensive power management
I do have several steam tanks on the one steam power plant that carries me to nuclear, but I use compact nuclear plants with one steam tank per reactor. But I like where you are going. I might build one nuclear plant (the first one) with a lot of steam tanks and use its steam levels / depletion tim...

For direct machine-belt insertion:
Use 2 inserters to load to the belt for the last furnace.

Re: Comprehensive power management
With 0.17 I'm doing my 5th or 6th from scratch to mega-base run. After more than 8000 hrs I have learnt how to do this efficiently. I think. There are 3 phases. 1. Start-up base Lot's of red, green, and blue science. Some yellow and purple for the most important stuff. The idea is to get all the tec...

Re: Comprehensive power management
We are talking late game, right? Here are my 2-3 cents. Steam Power If you use stack filter inserters connected to the requester chest and let the content signal set the filter of the inserter, it will output wood first. IMHO, steam power is not powerful enough to scale up beyond, let's say, 100 ste...

Re: Are Bitters unnecessary?
I think the point here is that you don't ever need to go to the other end of your base to do something about the biters. In the endgame, a proper place-and-forget wall design is a no-brainer.

First of all, you can click a power pole to get exact statistics. You can also hover with the mouse to get better information than judgeing be the flickering of lamps. If it's not a bug, your observation isn't correct.
Accumulators go always last.
You cannot energy-starve your factory with accumulators.

Rails are relatively cheep. I highly recommend to use a two-lane system.
Your construction will cause a lot of headache due to grid locks and it's limited capacity.

Most likely, the N-S rail in the west in one sided (northbound). Check for a signal south of the screenshot.
It also seems that there are parts of rail missing at your forges. That is definately the case north of your rectangle and maybe also at the station in the north-west.

Re: Simple Questions and Short Answers
Very interesting! But is steam not cooling down back to water? So a setting could be something like 4 Steam Engines, 1 steam Tank, then a boiler? This would add quite a large buffer for output? Yes, you can even do boiler-steam engines-tank. And why get rid of Steam Engines? Because of pollution? B...
