Re: Balance Fluid Train Unloading Station
If I really wanted to drain a train quickly What I would do without using logic network would be to have two (or three) pumps per car direct to a tank, then a pump direct to that tank pushing out to a second tank. That second tank then will have a pump to normal pipeworks to a really large communal ...

I would definitely say that lazy bastard is easier than doing it in 8 hours unless you're using a guide of some sort. Lazy bastard takes a bit to start, but it's really not that bad once you've gotten started and learned some basic tricks. Would not combine them though. Definitely not to combine th...

Pretty much the only thing I found myself using others' blueprints for is to manage the scale (and signalling minutia) of bidirectional rails, e.g.:

Re: Wagon inventory filters allowing two options?
I guess I'll have to rely on the „Iron plates go in first so they don't need to have a filter“ and be careful to consume them all before letting the train on to reuse the space. You could try circuit conditions that count the contents and if too many persist don't enable the inserters for the other...

Did you have "Synch BP to steam" checked in the menu? If not I can understand they would be deleted from the programs folder with the other game files if you uninstall/reinstall.

Re: Clarification of fluid mechanics
Sounds like you would have the same problem as with vanilla Advanced oil processing and backlogging (aka back-pressure) due to too much Heavy oil/Light oil. The solution is more or less the same. A little bit a circuit network controls to shut-off/activate production so as to avoid backlogging. I u...

Re: Wall and cliff angst
Hmm.... Is there a mod that lets you ADD cliffs? I haven't seen one. Mostly just ones that modify cliff explosives:

I ask as it's one of two things biters can't cross (the other being vanilla water).

Re: Water supply for nuclear reactors
Another related question: is it better to run more reactors than you really need so your steam turbines are running at say 50%, or to only power up what you need so that the turbines are pushing 95% capacity? (Not 100%, or I start seeing brownouts where I am not quite producing enough power). The p...

Curious - what's the situation? I might use chest-chest on kovarex, or in .16 when buffering fuel blocks, but I'm having difficulty thinking of a "normal" situation I'd want to move chest-chest. I'm not that poster, but I also put large chest-buffers in front of my science grid. I sometim...

Re: How to destroy unwanted items?
You always need coal for plastic and grenades. Whenever you still have a use for something use requester chests and output to a piece of belt that has priority. There are items that have no further use like armor or wooden power poles. Those you can stick in a wooden chest to blow up I find small p...

Re: Friday Facts #329 - Campaign reassessment
For example, when we started to get to the point when we had to automate green science, my friend sort of just froze - they saw the recipe and almost gave up right there. However, when we started to work together to automate each of the steps, they realized that each step was surmountable and start...

But how were you building the objects? Until I had more experience with construction/logistics zones I was laying down lots of ghosts and construction robots would fill them (MANUAL). If you use blueprints or CONTROL-C + CONTROL-V, then Automated gets the credit for the build. I was definitely usin...

call c:\util\factorio_autohotkey.bat c:\programs\factorio\factorio.exe Note you "call" batch files, but just type exe's like you would at the dos prompt. Because Windows. If you don't "call" a sub-batch file, you transfer control to the new batch file and never return to the fir...

Only 5.4% of steam players have the "You're doing it right" achievement. I'm pretty sure there is a bug with it. During a game where I had launched over 300 rockets, and was spam-building productivity-filled machines, solar panels, accumulators, etc it said I hand-built TWICE how many I p...

Re: Crude oil tank not working
Problem solved! As a suggestion, I would recommend having the pumps empty into a storage tank each so the train can shorten its stop as pipe can only hold so much at a time. Pumps can move 200 fluid per tick but at best pipes can only hold 100 fluid at a time... https://wiki.factorio.com/Fluid_syst...

The only downside is that when the need arises to go get more resources, I have to aimlessly drive around in the black to look for ore patches. To echo what Ran says, I tend to add extra Radar units at the corners of my powered base. Each one speeds up mapping within a large number of chunks. I thi...

i absolutely love the game for the most part, i like the fact i can dip in and out, and its so addictive and rewarding, the only thing i dont get is the need for the fauna. it seems unnecessary to me to have that element, i know it creates an extra challenge, but i dont like that its more dangerous...

I never knew burner inserters could feed themselves  That adds some real usefulness to them! This why many backup steam power units incorporate them, they will startup on their one once fuel is restored. My backup power system has a separate coal power system to power the main coal burner in...

Re: Support bigger screenshot sizes
What about playing a vanilla playthrough with achievements enabled? Will it work? I'm afraid a mod will always disable the Vanilla Steam achievements. Even if it does nothing dramatic (like change biter sprites into hot dogs), the mere presence of a mod removes the ability to get Steam achievements...
